Chapter 12: Only a Husband Has This Right

Having lost over ten thousand yuan, missing out on the summer lantern festival, and now acting as a chauffeur and laborer to help the Yue sisters move, Li Nianlong felt this period was the darkest trough of his life. All sorts of misfortunes seemed to rain down on him. The god of calamity must have envied his comfortable life for the past twenty years and decided to punish him out of jealousy.
At least, that was how Li Nianlong saw it.
"Wow! Big Brother, your house is gorgeous!" Yuexi exclaimed in awe at the three-story luxurious villa. "And there's a fountain! So extravagant!"
"It's okay," Li Nianlong said, carrying luggage to the door and taking out his keys. "This isn't extravagant; those houses behind with swimming pools are the real deal."
"To me, this is already a rich landlord's lifestyle." Yuexi ran to the fountain, took off her sandals, and soaked her delicate feet in the water. "Wow! Feels nice."
Yuechao blinked, stepped up to the fountain, cupped the cool water in her hands, and splashed her cheeks. "Feels great."
Li Nianlong opened the door and said, "There are empty rooms on the first and second floors. Pick one. Just so we're clear, friends are friends, I won't charge you for room and board, but neither of you can escape doing chores, or I'll deduct from your allowance."
Li Nianlong had recently learned that the Yue sisters' parents had divorced two years ago, both now abroad pursuing their careers. One sister lived with their father, the other with their mother, but the girls couldn't bear being apart and stubbornly refused to leave the country with their parents. For two years, they stayed in Longcheng, living together since they were fourteen, practically relying on each other. Fortunately, their parents were quite decent, providing them a monthly allowance, which, despite the mundane aspects of their lives, kept them financially comfortable.
Yuechao and Yuexi had called their parents separately and explained the situation. However, both parents claimed to be busy with work and unable to return to China immediately.
Left with no choice, they reached a compromise. The sisters gave Li Nianlong their bank account details, and each parent transferred 50,000 RMB, totaling 100,000 RMB. With this, all problems were solved.
Yuechao and Yuexi planned to stay in Tianfu for half a month before returning to Longcheng. They had already contacted their bank to temporarily freeze their accounts and would handle the replacement of documents and procedures upon their return.
"Do we really have to do chores?" Yuexi's face fell, kicking her feet in the water. "Can't we skip it? I'm terrible at housework."
"So, have you been living in a pigsty or a doghouse these past two years?"
"Pfft! You're the one living in a pigsty! You're the one living in a doghouse!" Yuexi pulled her feet out, put her shoes back on, and hugged Yuechao from behind, swinging her ponytail proudly. "I have Changchang. She's a domestic goddess; she does everything."
"Well, what do you do then?" Li Nianlong asked, entering the house and turning on the living room lights.
"What do I do?" Yuexi dragged her suitcase in, giggling. "You'll be shocked when I tell you. I'm a fantastic cook, especially with beef and potato stew. Changchang loves it."
"Oh?" This was unexpected. Yuexi, the wild child, could actually cook. "In that case, you'll be in charge of meals from now on."
"No problem, leave it to me," Yuexi said, entering the drawing room with sparkling eyes. "Wow! It's huge!"
Li Nianlong smiled, fetched several cans of iced tea from the fridge, and tossed one to Yuexi. "Your family seems pretty well-off. Why didn't you buy a big house?"
"Longcheng property prices are sky-high," Yuexi said, catching the drink and thanking him. "Actually, our house isn't small either, over a hundred square meters, and it's within the second ring road."
"Oh? That's not bad." Li Nianlong handed the other two cans to Lan Ruyue and Yuechao. "With that house, you two won't have to worry about food and shelter for life."
"You're way ahead of us, Big Brother." Yuexi admired the villa more and more. "This villa is stunning; it must be worth a fortune!"
"It's alright." Sipping his iced tea on the sofa, he added, "Someone offered 60 million for our villa last year, but I turned it down."
"60 million!?" Both Yuexi and Yuechao were stunned. The villa, roughly 200 square meters across three floors with a garage and a fountain, seemed too costly at that price.
"That expensive?" It was comparable to houses in the second ring road of Longcheng.
"Know why it's so expensive?" Li Nianlong chuckled.
Yuexi shook her head.
"Because everyone who lives here is either rich or influential." Li Nianlong spoke casually, with a hint of disdain. "Houses in this area usually top out at around 30,000 to 40,000 RMB per square meter, but connections here can't be bought with money. Go outside early in the morning; most of those elderly exercising are retired officials, and a couple are fathers of nouveau riche. If you can connect with them, the benefits would far exceed a few million."
"Truly Chinese characteristics." Yuexi realized, gulping down the iced tea and exhaling a refreshing breath. "That was awesome! Time to pick a room!"
Watching Yuexi bounce around like a happy fawn between the first and second floors, Li Nianlong smiled and turned to Yuechao. "Go pick a room too!"
"No need." Yuechao gave him her signature soft smile. "I always share a room with Xi Xi. Let her choose."
"Is that a twin thing?" Li Nianlong asked, noting that many twins shared rooms and beds.
"At least it's our habit," Yuechao stuck out her tongue, her adorable smile ever-present.
By the time Yuexi chose her room and unpacked, it was past 8 pm. She picked a room on the first floor, while Lan Ruyue had chosen a room on the second floor earlier, and Li Nianlong slept on the third. Now, each floor was occupied.
"It's late. Get some rest!" Li Nianlong rubbed his eyes as he watched the Yue sisters finish organizing their room. The vintage wine he had earlier was making him drowsy. "There's bread and ham in the fridge if you get hungry at night. Don't rummage around."
"Got it, thanks, Big Brother." Yuexi made a face and stuck out her tongue. "So naggy."
"Xi Xi!" Yuechao chided gently and apologized on her behalf. "Please don't mind her, Big Brother."
"It's okay." Li Nianlong waved his hand. "Good night. Sleep well."
"Good night, Big Brother."
Exiting the Yue sisters' room, Li Nianlong switched off the living room lights and headed upstairs. Lan Ruyue's door was open. As Li Nianlong approached, he saw her in the midst of changing clothes.
Li Nianlong's eyes widened as Lan Ruyue, having just taken off her pink bra, turned to grab her nightgown, only to find Li Nianlong staring at her.
Contrary to expectations, there was no rush to cover up or scream. Lan Ruyue reacted as usual, blinking and gesturing with her hands: Why don't you come in?
"Oh..." Li Nianlong, slightly tipsy, entered and closed the door behind him, his eyes fixed on her 36C figure, fair and full, resembling a jade rabbit. On the jade rabbit, two pink cherries were particularly inviting, stirring a desire in Li Nianlong to taste them.
Lan Ruyue seemed oblivious to his gaze, naturally slipping into her translucent pink nightgown that failed to conceal her fair skin and white cotton underwear.
Li Nianlong's eyes flickered with confusion. "Do you usually change like this at home?"
Lan Ruyue turned to look at him, her eyes curious.
"I mean..." Li Nianlong pointed at her nightgown. "Aren't you afraid someone might see you?"
Lan Ruyue was even more puzzled, signing: Why should I be afraid?
"Really wonder what kind of family you came from." Li Nianlong shook his head and then spoke seriously. "Listen, don't change in front of men anymore. A girl's body is sacred and inviolable; it shouldn't be casually exposed to the opposite sex unless that man is your husband. Understand?"
Lan Ruyue blinked, seemingly understanding something, a flush creeping onto her fair cheeks. Her hands signed: Only my husband can see me?
Li Nianlong nodded. "Yes, only your husband. No other man."
Lan Ruyue's blush deepened, and her gaze towards Li Nianlong held a new light. Her gestures slowed: You saw my body just now, does that mean you'll be my husband?
