Lena really hates the press.
And yes, she knows her girlfriend is the press, but as Kara says, 'that is not journalism. Those are vultures.'
So, Lena stands by her previous statement: she really hates the press.
It all started a few months ago when Kara and her, after 2 months of dating, decided to go public with their relationship. At first, Lena had been hesitant. The press loved her private life almost as much as they hated her (on second thought, that could be why the press was so invested in her personal life). Nevertheless, overwhelmed with pure domestic bliss, they ripped off the proverbial bandaid and publically declared their love for one another—to the world. As expected, there were a few articles about how she coerced Kara into dating her, but they were mostly small-time bloggers on the internet and therefore didn't get much traction. So all in all, things were great. The pictures were lovely, and people had actually been pretty supportive of their relationship. In fact, L-Corp's stocks were at an all-time high because according to Lena's PR team, it made her look more 'human,' 'normal,' and 'approachable.' The people of National City couldn't get enough of National's hottest new couple, and apparently the tabloids couldn't either...
...but it's been 2 months. 2. Whole. Months. 2 months of the paparazzi sticking their noses into Lena's personal life. 2 months of 'scandalous' articles revolving around her relationship. 2 months of her L-Corp board members tsking as if they weren't the ones actually cheating on their significant others. 2 months of Lena telling reporters to 'fuck off' in the nicest way possible (because apparently outright saying it would be detrimental for the company). 2 months of Lena resisting the urge to personally march down to each and every tabloid in the city and show them just who the HBIC really is.
But it's fine. She's fine. Everything is absolutely fine.
At least, that's what Lena tries to tell herself as she stands in front of a mini kiosk at 6:45 in the morning, trying her very best to keep the rage within.
Lena glares down at the magazine with an expression commonly followed by the phrase 'when the wind blows your face will stay like that.' Screw it, its not fine. Unable to look at the overwhelming ridiculousness of the magazine's contents any longer, she crumples up the paper as much as she can before aggressively shoving it into a nearby garbage can.
Her spark of smug satisfaction is snubbed out as the man running the kiosk addresses her with a curious tilt of his head. "You know either of 'em or somethin'?" The proprietor asks. At Lena's quizzical look he just shrugs with a, "You looked pretty upset by the cover."
Any sense of serenity Lena had managed to reclaim evaporates as rage starts to boil at the pit of her stomach because plastered on the front page of that stupid magazine is a picture of Lena and Supergirl at last night's charity event for the Children's Hospital.
Who cares that L-Corp surpassed their goal by 1 million dollars? Who cares that Supergirl spent the majority of her night entertaining the children? Who cares that the photo taken of the two of them was the one and only time her and Supergirl spoke all night? Who cares that every spare moment of free time Lena managed to get was spent with Kara?
But apparently, the tabloids either did not care or did not notice due to a lack of care. And unfortunately, Lena is not too surprised about their obsession over her love life. As it's become quite evident over the past 2 months, gossip is far superior to anything else going on in the world.
"I just think it's getting a bit ridiculous, is all," Lena replies just for argument's sake. She looks down at her nails in indifference as if the headline alone isn't enough to make her want to march down to The National and demand just who the fuck they think they are. "Supergirl's a girl scout, the girl next door... not a homewrecker. Besides, she's been around for years, doesn't wear a mask, and the general public still doesn't know her secret identity." The corners of her lip twitch ever so slightly because it's just a pair of glasses. But seemingly, perpetual blindness and a slight personality change is enough to fool a whole city. Which... is both ridiculous and almost ingenious, if it weren't for the fact that all it takes is spending a certain amount of time with both her identities for everything to go downhill. "She's obviously adept at keeping her personal life a secret, so I doubt we would know if she were really dating anyone."
