CHAPTER 2

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆───

"Aubrey, you good?" Henry's fingers snapped in front of her face, his voice tinged with concern at her sudden silence, knowing she wasn't the quiet type. He sensed something was off ever since they had walked into the room. Following her gaze, his eyes landed on Chris as well. A puzzled expression grew on his face as he tried to piece together what was happening.

"Aubrey?" he repeated, softer this time, hoping to draw her back from whatever thoughts had captured her attention. But her eyes remained fixed on Chris, a mixture of emotions playing across her features. Henry glanced between the two, the tension between them was alive, and as if the air itself had thickened.

"Come on, Aubrey, let's go," Henry whispered, his voice soft but firm enough to break through her reverie. He gently took her hand, his touch meant to offer comfort and reassurance. He could feel the slight tremble in her fingers, a sign of the emotional storm brewing within her. As one of Aubrey's closest friends, Henry knew her better than most. He had a sharp intuition to read her moods through her facial expressions, especially when she was feeling down.

CHRIS

Witnessing the tall blonde guy beside Aubrey, boldly take her hand right before my eyes triggered an unexpected surge of emotions within me. A turbulent mix of jealousy and anger flooded my chest, causing my head to feel like it was boiling with intensity. My thoughts raced as I grappled through the overwhelming sensation, trying to comprehend the complexities of the feelings coursing through me.

"who the fuck is this guy."

I tightened my grip on the strap of my equipment bag as they began walking in my direction. Aubrey's head kept down, as if she were holding back tears, sending an emotional chill down my spine. Seeing her refusing to even look at me as she walked past was heart-wrenching. However, the guy stopped next to me, as if he was about to speak. He cleared his throat, drawing my attention.

"Listen, I don't know what happened between you two, but I don't trust you being around her," Henry said firmly, his hand gripping my shoulder with surprising strength. Aubrey was ahead of us, her back facing us instead.

"Don't fucking touch me," I snapped, my eyebrows furrowing as I harshly shoved his hand off my shoulder. "Who the hell do you think you are?" My tone grew aggressive, every word dripping with rage. We now stood face to face.

Henry's eyes narrowed, matching my intensity. "I'm the one who's been there for her," he shot back, his voice steady with a hint of frustration. "Unlike you, I haven't caused her any pain."

His words struck a nerve, and I felt a surge of anger mixed with guilt. "You don't know anything about us," I defended, stepping closer, my fists clenched at my sides. "You have no idea what we've been through."
