The sound of the thunder crashing from outside the window made you jump fearfully.
"Shh," Hayoung softly shushed before she held you a little tighter. "It's okay. It's just a thunderstorm, my love. It's outside and we're safe and sound in here. You're okay."
You relaxed in her embrace and tried to focus on the scent of her perfume lingering on her skin as well as the brush of her fingers along your side.
You've been terrified of thunderstorms for as long as you can remember.
Until you met Hayoung, the only way you could get through them was by hiding under your blankets and blocking the sound out with music blasting through your headphones.
The anxiety they bring you still lingers with you when they come around but they're so much easier to get through with Hayoung by your side.
"Are you enjoying this movie?" She asked.
"A little."
"Would you rather watch something else? Maybe something more familiar?"
"Would you be okay with that?" You wondered and watched her smile at you before she grabbed the remote.
"If I wasn't, I wouldn't have asked in the first place, baby."
She turned on a movie you both like, one that's funny and extremely enjoyable.
As soon as the intro started, the thunder clapped again and this time, the house shook slightly when it hit.
You whined and buried your face in Hayoung's shirt.
"It's alright, baby." She comforted. "I've got you. You're safe."
You heard the rain pick up and saw the lightning flash outside the window.
"What if the power goes out?" You anxiously asked.
"Then we'll light some candles. Don't worry, Y/N, we're going to make it through this. It's just a bad storm. But we're safe. Nothing bad is going to happen."
You exhaled softly as she kissed your head.
"Just focus on me. Focus on the movie that I know you love. Block everything else out. It's just me and you."
You felt her fingers brush against your side soothingly and you tried to block everything else but her and the film out.
It took a little time for you to be able to calm down and for the anxiety to fade.
But it got easier.
Because with every crash of thunder, every strike of lightning, and each time the rain picked up, Hayoung would turn the TV up a little more or would give you kisses and soft caresses to help you forget about it all.
Her touches were just as comforting as the sound of her voice in your ear.
Her kisses made your heart melt, almost as much as her laughter when something funny happened in the film.
And eventually, despite the storm still raging outside, you were able to breathe and relax.
Hayoung brushed her fingers through your hair with a smile as you laughed along to the movie.
She glanced out the window as the thunder came again before looking at you to see that you were okay.
"I love you so much." She whispered.
You looked away from the movie and into her eyes before smiling at her.
"I love you too. Thank you for being here and comforting me through the storm. I hate them so much but having you here with me makes it better. You mean the world to me."
"I'll always be here for you." She spoke before kissing your lips softly. "I promise."
