I'm sitting in the drawing room, surrounded by friends and relatives. The house is aglow with wedding preparations, just like Sahil's bhaiya's wedding. And now, I can't believe it's my turn. Samir and his family are staying here in Dhaka. They've got accommodation sorted since they already have an apartment in the city.
I glance at the henna artist, whose nimble fingers dance gracefully across my hands, adorning them with beautiful henna designs. "This is so pretty," I say, staring at the henna she's applying on my hand.
She smiles in response.
Suddenly, Sara's voice diverts my attention. "Make sure to hide Samir bhaiya's name in the henna. We'll make him search for it."
In the next moment, everyone starts agreeing with Sara, urging the henna artist to hide his name perfectly.
She smiles."Don't worry. I'll hide his name in the designs so well that it will be hard for him to find it."
I gaze at my phone placed beside me as the familiar ringtone fills the room. A smile spreads across my face when I see Samir's face illuminating my phone screen with a video call.
But just as my hand reaches out to grab the phone, another hand swiftly swoops in and snatches it away from me. I look up and notice Mubashira apu. This time, my smile widens even more.
"Mubashira apu, when did you come?"
I jump up from my seat and approach her, ready to envelop her in a tight embrace, but she stops me midway, her gaze fixed on my henna. "You don't want to smudge these beautiful designs, do you?'"
We smile at each other and settle back on the sofa. "I had to come and see how the bride is doing. Plus, the bride's best friend is here, so I couldn't resist," Mubashira apu says, smiling at me and Sara.
We hear the phone ring again and this time she picks it up.
"Who stole my wife's phone?" Samir's voice booms through the speakers, as he catches Mubashira apu on the screen instead of me.
"When did you drive there, Apu?" Samir asks.
"Secret, I ain't telling you" Mubashira Apu quips.
"Then why are you still holding the phone? Hand it back to my wife."
I can see Mubashira Apu bursting into giggles. "Alright, here you go. Your husband is absolutely desperate to talk to you"
Mubashira Apu hands me back my phone, and there it is, his smiling face lighting up the screen. "Samir, I'll talk to you later. I'm kind of busy now"
"Seriously? We haven't even had a chance to talk yet."
"I promise, I'll give you a call later."
"Fine" he replies, a hint of disappointment in his voice before we end the call.
