SHE AND TROUBLE WERE INTERTWINED BY BIRTH; havoc and mischief were created by her fingertips, her footprints left a trail of mishaps in her wake and that grin of hers, bright and wide, told the tales of all her doings. There was never a moment where Leyra Te Pali Lunapey'ite forgot that she was the trouble child of the Omatikaya. The elders of the Clan never allowed her to forget, her friends never allowed her to forget, and her parents most certainly didn't allow her to forget. In her defense, it was not like she wanted these things to happen. She only got into fights when it was for the better good 一 (you never solve your problems with your fists, Leyra.)And when she finds herself in the forest away from camp after not telling anyone, it was because she had gotten distracted by its beauty. She feels at peace when out there, surrounded by the wonders of the forest 一 (you know better than to make us worry, Leyra.)Though, she admits, she knows full well what she is doing when she does her pranks. But, once again, in her defense her pranks were not even that bad! 一 (you know better, Leyra. What if someone was hurt?)But Leyra didn't know any better! It was not like she went out of her way to cause trouble, apart from the occasional prank. But, no matter, it didn't matter what Leyra had to say, nobody would listen to the trouble child.
WITH THE ARRIVAL OF GRACE AUGUSTINE AND HER SCHOOL, Leyra's mother believes that it is the perfect place for Leyra to go despite her own dislike for the Sky People. One, she will have the comforts of knowing where her child will be, and Two, she hoped that it meant that Leyra would be taught that her way of behaving was only causing problems that will one day backfire. And so, it was decided that Leyra would become a student at Grace Augustine's school and it, quick enough, become one of Leyra's favourite places. But this would only be the beginning of Leyra's loss of freedom.
