"in the case of an emergency..." i tune out the nervous looking plane ladies voice as i whisper incoherently in the ear of my cheeky youngest sibling, lana. we giggle in unison, being separated from both our parents gave us leave to be mischief. the third seat hadn't been occupied yet so i stretched my legs out a little onto it, they still burned from todays exhausting adventures and i couldn't wait to sleep it away. i took a 0.5 x of my sisters face as we dissolved into more cackling laughter as she delivered one of her fiery quips.
my mother always said that our sisterly dynamics worked out so well because of our personalities; i was the elder but had more younger sister energy, immature, energetic (perhaps a bit spoiled), whilst my sister was more witty, grounded and generous much like an older sister. i loved her to pieces and wasn't afraid of sharing my love. however she was a more of showing her affection through acts of service rather than saying them out loud. she found it " cringe" hilariously.
i was too busy in a heap of uncontrollable giggles at my sisters face when a charming boys voice spoke. "hi, sorry, i think this might be my seat". he was American, which was endearing to my British twang. his voice lulling and deep, wow! he should read audible books. i scrambled my legs of the chair "oh I'm so sorry" deigning a glance at his face quickly with an apologetic smile as he sits down.
my eyebrows goes up and my heart leaps a bit. he was handsome. not unnormal to me but this boy was like actor level good- looking, and my age, which was genuinely strange. iv seen heaps of handsome, rich boys in my lifetime especially since of my career but they all seemed faker than the last and so stuck up. this boy had the bluest kindest eyes, a mop of messy blondish curls half hidden behind a hoodie and the most boyishly cute dimples i have ever seen. and that warm voice! god.
he sported a blue hoodie although it was very hot, i had already stripped down to my tank, and a pair of cargo pants. He was tall too I immediately notice. I shake myself out of my trace before i started salivating. what was even weirder to me was how familiar he looked. our gazes locked for a sec and he looked surprised for a second, eyebrows raised as if he genuinely recognized me. i looked away quickly and he did too, like we'd been caught standing too close to fire. how was i ever going to sleep on this 6 hour flight with this gorgeous boy beside me?
"sorry this is so random" my head shot his way so fast i nearly cracked it. he was talking to me. oh no has he gotten annoyed with my loud commentary playing slither.io with Lana and wants me to shut the heck up. my face pinked and i smiled a bit " sorry if i we were being too loud, ill shut up i promise".
" oh no its fine" his warm voice overtook me again filling me with a hot fuzzy feeling " i have a brother, tanner, and trust me we are exactly like this and worse". i grin and glance up at him. i get to sweep my eyes over his flawless face. he was perfectly proportioned almost annoyingly so. i realize he was doing the same to me with an expectant shine to his eye.
"sorry but... are you viola fletcher?"
i go into a state of paralysis temporarily and stare at him for a sec. this cute boy knows me? oh my god oh my god oh my god. wait, snap out of it viola, of course he knows you, you're 2nd in the world in tennis for 15-18. still, oh my god oh my god oh my god.
i beam wide " yes i am!"
"oh my god" his deep voice took a lilt of boyish joy that made me smile even more as he fixed his position to face me "my older sister Leena was literally talking about you this morning she's your biggest fan ever and like i see all these edits of you on TikTok". i giggle, the fact that this boy knows me and is fanboying over me is seriously like a dream.
"maybe god brought me into your life. have you done any good deeds lately" my sister hits me hard with her elbow and i groan " sorry that was so lame , i don't even believe in god" he laughed "no its all good. seriously though like i saw you play in that stadium today in an edit and you literally were so cool dude" he sounded like a preteen talking about a game of football and it was so cute. " that's so nice i am literally exhausted i think my legs are about to fall off but it was worth it" i smile.
15 MINUTES LATER
"not to sound creepy" oh well done viola that makes you sound creepy " but you seriously look familiar to me, like..."
don't say it.
"like an actor? maybe that's just me though".
we had been talking for 10 minutes, and i was floating in a daze the entire time. not only was he more good looking than sin, he paired it with a really incredible personality something most English boys lacked. he was confident and eager and talkative, slightly more than me, although maybe that was because i was temporarily shocked to speak much. he was sweet as well and genuine which was abnormal but i didnt hate it one bit.
he seemed to warm to me fast though and i was already fully warmed, no, burning, for him already. excessive? a bit, maybe. it has only been 10 minutes and i had popped the question straight after laughing at something his brother tanner had managed to stick up his nose.
"sorry if that's a weird question although its definitely a compliment" i smile expectantly waiting for him to shut me down.
"actually i am!"
i pause, expecting laughter, looking into his blue eyes waiting for the catch. he stares back looking way to genuine to be messing with me right now and slightly awkward, his hands unconsciously picking at his cargos. could he actually? i don't even try to hide the drop of my mouth as i demand "what's your name again sorry?"
"Walker Scobell" he grins at me lopsided.
my sister who was seemingly minding her own business with a resigned smirk playing her game, shot her head up like he was suddenly the most fascinating thing ever
"did he say his name was Walker Scobell?" she very indiscreetly whisper shouted at me. "he can hear you you know" "viola, he's a huge actor. he's literally playing Percy Jackson". i give him a half skeptical, half oh my god are you kidding look "you play Percy Jackson, the main character, in that new tv show?"
"yeah, i do" his eyes dance with contained amusement and bashfulness as he runs a hand through the back of his hair. he didn't sound like he was showing off only like he was stating a well known fact. iv never seen percy jackson but i knew it was huge. i was still to perplexed to fully trust this though. my sister still gaped at him and he smiles awkwardly back.
"how come you look so different than in the trailer" she demanded her head craned to him.
he shrugged "i really hit puberty, at least that's what everyone says, iv definitely grown a few feet" he says it proudly glancing quickly at my still agape face.
"are you two pranking me" i furrow my eyebrows. as soon as i said it i knew the logic didn't make sense, the two don't really seem to be buddy buddy plus this all sounds way too real. unless they are both really good at acting in which i would encourage them into aspiring to actually be if they really are pranking me.
"hold on" i whip out my phone and i very rudely type his name into the Instagram search . i know, not a 'trying to impress a cute guy move' by openly stalking said cute boy, but when said guy is a supposed actor i had to fact check.
Walker Scobell had 1 million followers on Instagram and as i scrolled through his page in front of him i took in his posts. he was legit. Percy Jackson press, carpets at the met, co-stars, everything. my face blazed hotter than the fires of the sun itself. i met those blue eyes...
