The sky was clear. Clouds could only be seen on the distant horizon, so the visibility was extremely high, allowing them to see even far away.

In that sky, a creature with a remarkably gallant figure flapped it's wings. A jet-black body and a sharp tail. If a modern Earth person were to see it, they might call it a fantasy creature known as a wyvern. On top of this wyvern was a human wearing a light armor. The armor was simple in design, but it was functional. The Dragon Rider, Marl Patima, a Dragon Knight of the Principality of Qua-Toyne, took on the task of patrolling the northeastern region of the Principality.

There was nothing in that part of the country. Even if he went to the northeast or east of the principality, there was nothing there but a vast expanse of sea. The sea below him was the sea where countless adventurers had sailed east in search of new lands, but none had ever returned.

Due to the recent tensions with the Louria Kingdom, patrols had been sent as a countermeasure to detect and counter warships, as it was believed that they might launch a surprise attack from this empty region. This explained why he and his partner were flying to the northeast of the principality for patrol duty.

"-!" he spotted something. "What is that?" he thought, because he should be the only one on duty right now, but something else was there. "An ally...?" he thought, because in normal situations anything but a friendly wyvern was unthinkable. In this place, which was definitely beyond the flight range of any wyvern that might have come from Louria, he came to the conclusion that it could only be an allied wyvern coming from patrolling another area. Even though there was something called a Dragon Carrier, a ship capable of transporting wyverns from a larger civilized area, something like that should have nothing to do with this remote area.

The flying object, starting at the size of a grain, steadily approached the object, and it's beginning to grow larger. As it got closer, he could confirm that it was indeed not an allied wyvern.

"It's big..." he said in awe as he tried to close the distance between him and the object but to no avail as the only thing he could see was the object's belly and how massive the object was, from where he saw the object look like a sword with it's body being black and fire coming from what was supposed to be it's tail.

He turned around to see the wings of his beloved mate spread from one side to the other, then flap violently. The wind pressure became heavy as he flew faster, almost throwing him off. The great distance was covered in mere seconds....but he couldn't catch up with the object.

A Wyvern could fly at 235 km/h. Among animals, it could almost claim top speed, being faster than horses and being the cavalry that ruled the skies. (Apparently, the great civilizations bred an even faster species of dragon.) But this supreme master of celestial mobility couldn't catch up with the object.
He couldn't understand what kind of animal it was, or whether it was a living being or not.
