(A/N Hey guys this is an assessment for english that I wrote and I wanted to know what you thought of it.)

The Flash

It had been 260 days since the world ended in the Flash.

Even now, no one knew exactly what the Flash was, or why it had turned all electronic devices to slush. And no one knew why most of the adults who’d seen it had either died...or become something else. Petey said it was some kind of attack by aliens from outer space, but I wasn’t so sure about that. Petey thought everything was to do with aliens from outer space.

Someone sounded the alarm, a screeching blast of a trumpet that echoed through the underground bunker that was home for me and about a hundred other kids. Kira couldn’t actually play the trumpet, but she was excellent at making a noise. I rolled off my bed, grabbing for the crossbow that I always kept beside me and running for the trapdoor that led outside. Probably just a false alarm, we’d already had three this week.

But when I scrambled through the trapdoor and into the open air, I saw it – the telltale cloud in the distance, caused by thousands of clawed feet kicking up the dirt as they ran.

The Screamers were coming.

I heard a scream and my faced paled, my 8-year-old sister was being dragged away by one of the screamers, I couldn’t think straight, I ran for her with my crossbow and knife ready, running into the crowd of screamers, fighting them off, I needed to get to Kira…

Let me go back to before this all started. My sister Kira is an eight year old, worried about friends, scared of the dark, those type of girls. She had this doll that she carried wherever she went that glowed in the dark. School had just finished and we were looking forward to the holidays. We were leaving for Perth.

My last normal memory of my Mum was on the plane.

The seats started to shake and the world outside started to disappear, we were taking off. I turned and looked at my mum, she was clutching the arms of her chair so hard that her knuckles turned white. “Mum you’ll be fine, you have more chance to be eaten by a shark than die in a plane crash” I said, she looked at me and smiled.

“I know Charlie, honey, I just don’t like flying. I have a weird feeling something is going to go wrong.” She said

I smiled at the memory.

I remember after we were off the plane the flash happened. The light was so bright and the noise was almost deafening. When it stopped I opened my eyes and I was horrified, the adults had became deformed and their fingers, nails and toes curled up in a claw-like manner, then I saw my sister and froze. She was sitting there watching them, tears streaming down her face yelling at them to stop, cuddling her doll. All I remember after that was escaping the airport with my crossbow and my sister. When we got outside I saw kids everywhere were defending themselves from the monsters; protecting their younger siblings. The rest was a blur; I got everyone to follow me towards these buses that were old and clunky. 3 of us drove the buses, 1 each.

When we finally found the army base to stay at rather than the abandoned warehouse we had been staying at, it gave us all hope. One day Kira found a trumpet and played it non-stop so Petey and I decided to give her the job of being our alarm, though she would mainly scare us with false alarms because she was bored.

The attack happened on a wet and gloomy day. I remember it the clearest of all my memories. I turned to my left stabbed a screamer in the temple killing it instantly then I turned to my right and froze, I was utterly confused, why was Petey just standing there laughing at us kill the screamers?

He looked over to me and smiled at me “Charlie, I am surprised you haven’t figured it out yet. I got the biggest surviving population of humans to trust me. I am not human, ever wondered why I was always talking about outer space, well guess what I’m from outer space.” He chuckled “We caused this apocalypse by blowing up the brightest star in the sky. We want this planet for ourselves. It is a very beautiful planet and humans are killing it. Get rid of man kind, problem solved.”

“Petey, if that's even your name. Please I’m begging you change your mind save us.” I said

He just shook his head and disappeared into the crowd of screamers.

That was the last time I saw him, many of us were killed that day but not all of us we still fight. I lost Kira that day; I don't know if she’s dead or alive, either way I hope she’s safe.
