I lean back in my office chair as I let a sigh of relief. I had so much paperwork to do and sign off. I look at my phone. 3am. Yikes. That's super late. I slowly close my eyes before getting up and putting everything away, grabbing my things and making sure everything was in order. I turn the lamp light off and walk out, locking the door. I don't live too far from here but it's still a hassle to walk from here to there on no energy. The thought of seeing my partner motivated me to push through. I begin to trudge home, the only sound being my shoes clacking the pavement. I look up for a moment. Stars filled the black night sky. It's very pretty. I wish I spent more time outside. I look ahead of me once again and begin to approach the streets I'm familiar with. I walk for another 5 minutes before I finally reach my home. My safe place.
I take my keys out of my bag and insert the key into the keyhole. I slowly turn the lock and walk in. The lights are still on. I see Dawn sleeping on the couch, hair messy and book just tipping out of her hands. Ah. She was waiting for me. I close and lock the door behind me and quietly walk past Dawn, going past the kitchen and up the stairs. I grab a spare blanket and walk with caution back down the stairs and past the kitchen again, arriving in the living room. I place the blanket gently over her. I take my shoes off and sit down by her legs. I take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous she looks. Gosh she looks gorgeous. What does she see in me? She's amazing. My eyelids begin to pull over my eyes, signifying I need sleep. I yawn and lie down next to Dawn, cuddling close to her. I rest my head upon hers. I feel her snuggling close against my chest, getting comfortable. It isn't long before I also sleep, with her in my thoughts.
