well.. that's life

"jack!" eric yelled.

"shut up!" i yelled into his ear. jack was in the bathroom getting ready and eric was being a baby and whining. i had been ready for a while because eric woke me up at 5:30 because he had a bad dream and wanted me to make him a peanut butter sandwich. i said no. then 5 minutes later he comes into my room and tells me that there was an issue. i asked what and he said that he was heating up some water in the microwave to make hot chocolate and the microwave started popping. he had put the metal pot into the microwave and almost burned down our apartment but it was fine. this is my life now. i have to be a mom to guys that are a year older than me. it is a struggle. 

i walked into the kitchen to make myself a smoothie. 

"i want oneeeee!" eric whined. 

"then make it yourself." i said as i grabbed a banana off the counter. he flopped onto the couch and was being his drama king self when jack walked out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his hips and his hair wet. 

"finallyyyyyy." eric whined. 

"i still have to get dressed." jack grinned. 

"oh hurry up." eric yelled. he was cranky today goodness. jack grinned at me as he walked into his room. we were thinking the same thing; "he has started his man period today". it was true. eric has a man period. jack on the other hand. nope. rachel was already down at the student lounge and i was ready to go. 

"imma get going. see y'all there." i yelled into the house as i walked out into the hallway. i pressed the elevator button and waited for the door to open. i stepped in and went on my way to the student lounge. 

"hey girl!" rachel said as she sipped some of her coffee. 

"hey!" i said as i sat next to her on the couch. i sipped my smoothie and grinned at her. 

"what?!" she asked. 

"you know both the boys have fat crushes on you right?"

"i mean, yeah." she blushed. 

"which one would you pick?" i ask. 

"delaine!!" she said hitting me with i pillow as i laugh at her. i just stared at her until she answered. "probably eric. but i don't really know." 

"i can see it." i said panning my hand around the room and putting my arm around her. we both giggled. 

"see what?" eric asked picking up a magazine with a girl in a bikini and flicking it open. 

"nothing."

we are going on a 8 mile walk today. i loathe running but walking is totally chill and i enjoy it.

"CAN YOU WALK ANY SLOWER?!" i yelled at eric. he stopped to look at everything on the sidewalk and was walking like a snail. actually slower than a snail. has bro ever been outside? i noticed jack looking at me but when i looked at him he looked away. 

"maybe he has the hots for you." rachel whispered into my ear as she walked by. i know i was blushing. i decided to walk in front of eric and let him get lost. i looked over at the campus. it was so pretty. 

i can't believe im in college. and im paying for it. that is crazy. jack has offered to help so many times but i wanna do this myself. both of my parents died in a car accident when i was 3. i lived with the hunters since then. shawn and i  have known each other since birth. im being for real. his mom popped him out first and then 15 days later my mom decided to pop me out too. he didn't know me for 15 days. he was so lonely. anyway we've always lived together in the trailer park, turners house, in the apartment, and now he rooms with cory. he tells me everything, even stuff he won't tell cory because im his bestie and i dont over react. everyone makes a big deal out of it but it isn't. all i can say is well... that's life. it sucks but it's all we've got right now.

"hey rach, can i ask you a question?" i ask. 

"sure." she says as she steps back and beside me. 

"i got asked on a date by a guy in history. should i go?"

"is he cute and nice?" 

"i mean yeah." 

"then sure."

"okay. when will i tell him?" 

"in history." 

"but i don't have that until tuesday." 

"well go find him and tell him today. t or angela could go with you."

"okay." i said. "is it normal to be nervous? i have never been on a date." 

"wait hold up back track." jack said. "you've never been on a date?!"

"no." i giggled. 

"well that is very surprising." 

"why?"

"everyone has been on a date in their life by college." 

"not me." 

"DELAINE I NEED TO TALK TO YOU! NOWWWWW!" i heard shawn yell. i looked back and saw him running towards me. 

"what?"

"i don't wanna talk about it in front of people." 

"oh okay... can it wait?" 

"umm sure."

"as soon as i finish my walk i swear i will head straight into your room and we will talk."

"thanks." he said giving me a hug. 

"is it about angela?" i asked into his neck. he nodded. they had broken up last friday. today was saturday so it had been a week and one day. cory is so mad. he is like begging them to get back together. but shawn is scared. and i get that. maybe that's why i refuse to date people because i dont want to get attached and then hurt them or get hurt. i cared for mrs. hunter and then she left. i cared for mr. hunter and then he left. i cared for mr. turner and then he got into an accident and left. every time i get attached to someone they leave.  besides shawn. so i know that he wont leave and i will never leave him. it is a promise that we made when we first moved into mr. turners house and we haven't broken it yet. he always listens to me and i do the same for him. no judgement and no guilt tripping. just a friend to talk to. 

"I FOUND A FROG!!" eric yelled running over to us. 

"cute." i said looking at it. 

"his name is gerald." eric said. jack snorted out a laugh. 

"welcome gerald to the matthew, hunter, johnston, mcguire family!" rachel said as she wrapped her arms around all of us as we walked down the sidewalk. she was right. we are a family.
