"Don't follow me if you don't want to help with breakfast!" I waved a hand at Kai without looking back, heading to the kitchen the same time Silas walked out of it.

"Hey, JJ," he tucked on one of my braids, about to continue on as if nothing happened, but I managed to smack his back, hard enough for him to groan and mutter a threat underneath his breath that I rolled my eyes on as Bolt left my side and went to where Silas was heading. I think Silas is the only one out of my family that Bolt misses as if he's the one who got him.

I looked back from the kitchen entrance to see Amelia standing there, her eyes so distant like she wasn't on the same planet let alone the same room as me.

"Amelia?" I stepped inside, tilting my head at her still isolated state. I haven't really talked to Amelia since we came back, didn't really have anything to say, whatever was between her and Emma belonged between them until it came to the aftermath. If Emma's mad at her then I am too, if Emma believes her then I do too. I cleared my throat, snapping my fingers in front of her face, watching her finally blink a few times with a shake of her head before I smiled and leaned back, "where did you just go?"

"Huh? Oh, nothing," she cleared her throat, tucking her hair behind her ears before letting out nervous laugh, "just zoned out."

I offered her a smile and went to grab a mug when she spoke again, leaning on the counter next to me, "hey, uh, you and I are good, right?"

"Yeah," I smiled again, "of course, why wouldn't we be?"

She hesitated for a moment, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt before meeting my gaze, "It's just... with everything that happened, I wanted to make sure we're still on the same page."

I nodded, understanding her concern, I'd be overthinking it too if I were her, "don't worry, we're fine. But what the hell did I walk in onto? Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she sighed, glanced at the doorway before looking at me again as I washed the mug. I think it was already clean, but I had to do it myself to be sure, "I don't think Silas is okay with me though, I mean, for god's sake, even Kai apologized to me."

"What makes you think that?" I frowned, both at the thought of Kai uttering the words sorry by his own free will and second because why would Silas be more bitter about Amelia than Kai and Emma themselves?

"I don't know, the moment Kai left us alone, his expression shifted 180 degrees like I was some sort of pest he couldn't wait to get rid of," she cracked her fingers as I dried my hands, "asked me why I've been hanging around Zade more than my own friends, instead of... talking to Kai and Emma to convince them that I'm not a threat."

"Don't mind him," I waved a hand, "if he's acting stiff, that's just how Silas is. He can be kind of mean... and rude," I tilted my head, narrowing my eyes, "and a bully. Wow, dude's a little horrible even for me."

That earned me a scoff, making me smile and look away again, looking for the coffee packets, hearing her say she's going to leave me to what I'm doing and nodded as she brushed past me, grabbing one of the packets when I heard a familiar voice that made my movements halt, the ease in my mind replaced by the tightening of my chest.

"Careful," Atlas let out in a low voice as I looked over my shoulder, seeing his hands on Amelia's upper arms to steady her before taking a step back, "do you usually look left and right before crossing the street or...?"

"No, I walk by the principal: if you're a man, hit me. Apparently there wasn't someone man enough till now."

"Yeah, it shows," he leaned against the doorframe the same moment his gaze dropped to check her out in what felt like less than a second before meeting her eyes again, giving her a soft smile, "your name's Amelia, right?"
