The Dragon's Mate

Chapter 3

 Kayla's pov

Devin and I went to the park to talk about some things that I needed to know that we did not know already. " what was so important that I need to know now? " I say as we sit on one of the benches at the playground. He takes a moment before he starts "So you know how you had to come with us today the reason why you and Marla had to come with us is because ......."he trails off " Because we are like you or something" I ask looking at him " because you guys are something like one of our soulmates but we call you guys mates. it is different because you guys can live without mates but if we don't find our mates we die. but on our 18th birthdays we meet our dragons and on that day we also meet the sun goddess and she tells us who our mates are." he stops and looks at me I just nod my head so he would go on. he breathes and goes on " after she tells us we wait till the calling and the people who have been or just turned 18 they go and do the calling that year to hopefully find their mates. instead of just telling the people who come with us we have their mates wait till they get settled in to introduce them to their mates and then they go on from there."

After he says all that I stand up and start pacing back and forth as I try to rape my head around it. " but that is not all is it." I ask as I keep pacing he shakes his head and continues'' that is not all we also have kings and queens but in movies, you know how the next queens and kings are the kids of the former king and queen but here we do it differently once the old king dies we have an event where every one of age comes together and we use our powers and whoever s changes color they are the next king or queen. that is all you need to know for now."

then I sit down and we just sit there in silence for a few minutes before Marla and Astro walk up to us "You guys finished with your chat because me and you need to talk about some stuff." Marla asks as they walk up to us with shocked kind of faces on her " yea we are finished we can go to our room and talk." I stand up and we walk to our room in silence as we think about what we just heard that we did not know.

When we make it to our room we sit on my bed and just sit there for a few minutes before Marla starts the conversation." ok so I was not expecting any of that. The mates especially like how ridiculous I never thought about any of that." she stops and looks at me but I can't say anything I'm still in shock that I don't know what to think about any of it.

" ok, so did all that just happen or was that just a dream? I mean I never thought of us stealing down and staying here this place is beautiful." I stop and start pacing again because I can't rapes my head around it. " ok it is getting late we should go to bed we have had a long day we can talk more in the morning." we get into our respective beds and go to sleep for the night.

Marla's pov

The next morning

I woke up at 5 am and went for a run. I make it a few miles before I reach the lake I stop and take in the surrounding sites of this amazing place. I sit down and take some time to think about what has happened to us in the past day. I sat under the cherry blossom tree for a while for some peace to think about what I was told yesterday. After about 30 minutes Astro joined me" So what are you doing up this morning I thought that you would have slept in." he asked as he looked out to the lake.

"I just needed to clear my head. I needed some peace to think about stuff.'' I say and lay back to look at the sky. " I figured that you would still be processing everything that you know now and what you still need to know about everything and what will happen when you figure out what to do when you meet your mate." he says as he lays down next to me " so what do you think so far." I sit there and look at him. " So far I am ok with it all but there is one thing that I can't get over." I say as I look at him as he stares at the sky he looks at me." So what is the one part that you can not get over." we lock eyes and stare at each other for a while.'' The mates were like why can't I know who it is now? I am ready to know now that I just found out about mates and all but I think that I am ready to know who it is can you set it up for me." but before he has time to answer a young little boy jumps on him and yells " come play with us come play with us." I laugh at the way the kids love him like he was their brother it was cute and I kind of have a feeling that I need to be with him like he's my mate I have never felt this way about anyone it's different.

"I will see what your mate thinks then we can go from there but I better go before they send another to tackle me i will see you later by," he says as I wave him off and he goes and plates with the kids. I decide that I have had enough time to like and that I should return to my room to check on Kayla by the time I make it back to my room Kayla is up and ready for the day she sits on her bed and she has her meditating face on so I walk in quietly. I grab my stuff to take a shower but before I can make it to the shower she speaks." So how was your run? " I stopped in my tracks and looked at her. " It was fine like normal. It helped me clear my mind about what we know." I say as I walk to the shower "Oo and when you are done there was something that was dropped off for us but we have to open it together so hurry up I want to know what is inside it." I hop in the shower. "OK, just give me a few minutes." I yell from the shower after about 10 minutes I hop out and change." ok open it let's see what is in it." as Kayla opens it there is a knock at the door" I'll get it you keep opening it." I say and I want to open it.

When I open the door there is a note and a bouquet of sunflowers with chocolate. I pick them up and close the door, I set them on the table and sit down to read the note. I open the card and start reading it "What is it." Kayla asks and I look up at her "Umm it's a note from my mate he said that the box that we received today is where I will meet him." I say "So what is in the box.'' I look at her as she pulls out two big dresses and a note. The note says "We invite you to join us in honoring our king at a ball." she reads out.

"let's go what time does it say we should get ready," I say excitedly as I think of what to do with my hair. " 8. We should get ready.'' We spring out of bed and we start doing our hair and makeup. It takes us about 5 hours to get ready for the ball. When we finish we stand there and look at each other. I am in a light blue princess dress with glitter and rhinestones on the bodice. While Kayla looks like a princess she is wearing a bright red strapless princess-style dress that has flowers on the bodice and a belt with flowers and glitter on it. " Are you ready, you look amazing babe." Kayla says as she holds my hand "Yes I am and thank you. You look amazing too.'' We hug each other and then grab our purses and head to the ball.

We walk over to the ballroom as we get close to the ballroom. I get the sense that I am being watched "Hey you go in I will meet you inside there is something that I think I need to do before I go in." I say and stop. " Are you sure I don't mind waiting out here for you?" Kayla says "No it's fine just go inside I have to do this alone." I say and she goes in. After about 5 minutes a tall man walks up to me and puts a hand on my shoulder. I turn to look at him "Don't just look straight for now. We can talk like this. You will see who I am when we walk inside." he says so I turn my head back but I can't get the thought that I know him that I've heard his voice but I just can't put my finger on who he is." should we go inside then? " I ask. " We shall," he says and we walk arms linked to the ballroom the closer we get to the doors the louder the music gets.
