Harry POV
"Tell me what?"
I walk in my home to see my girlfriend and best friend, embracing each other. They realize what they were doing and jump apart.
"How much I, um, appreciate everything you've done today. With the scavenger hunt, the various gifts, and especially this dress." Mariah begins.
"And I was just thanking Niall for helping you out a lot as well." She finishes breathlessly.
She looks at Niall, then to me, then down to herself.
"Oh, I'll just-" She points towards the staircase. She goes two steps at a time to change.
Niall shakes his head and deeply sighs. He pulls out a lighter and cigarette pack, and tries to escape. I prevent him from leaving.
"What's your deal mate?" He says with a cigarette in his mouth.
"You're my deal. First you bail after I catch you being abusive to Monica, then I find you here hugged up with my girlfriend. Something's going on and you're going to tell me."
I stand above him not losing my ground.
"I shouldn't have to explain myself to you. If you want answers ask Mariah."
I want to tell him off but my phone rings. Niall uses this interruption and leaves before I can catch him.
"Hello?"
"Hey." It's Monica.
"What ya need love?"
"Um everything is set up and people are arriving, so if you want it to be cordial I advise you to get Mariah, and possibly Niall over soon."
"Speaking of them, something is up. I think- I think they're cheating, on us."
"Harry dont be ridiculous."
I'm actually not being ridiculous, it makes sense. The way they act, the acting out, the weirdness, their secretive ways.
"Harry that's crazy, they would never do that. Mariah never liked the idea of cheating, so why would she do it?"
"I don't know, but now that I think about it, that night when everything started to get weird, there was a lot of drinking and ..."
"So you think that had drunk sex or something?!" She exclaims.
"Calm down love. But it could be true."
"I don't believe this. The only way we could know for sure is to find out."
"Don't worry, I think I have a plan."
