RHEA's POV:
I sat there next to him, a thousand thoughts in my head. It felt like an eternity before I finally heard the AI from his phone.
'As you know, my father is in a coma, but I never told you why.'
I nodded, giving hun my full attention. "Yes, which was surprising."
Kronos's hands shook slightly as he continued to type on his phone, 'I'm the reason why he is in a coma.'
My mate's eyes grew dull as his body started to shake harder. I quickly reassured him I was here for him and that he didn't need to tell me, but he insisted.
"What happened?" I asked.
'Before I tell you, what do you remember about the fire at the pack house many years ago?'
My world stood still at his question as sweat accumulated on my forehead. I always hated remembering the past, but there was a reason he was asking. Our stories had to line up.
"A fire suddenly occurred and caused several pack members to pass away. I was in the middle of playing with my stuffed animals when I smelled smoke. My father and mother soon burst through my doors and hurried me out of my room. Then—" I paused, always dreading this part of my story. "—a piece of the pack house started to crumble. The structure fell as the beam started to come for me. My mother pushed me out of the way, and it fell right on top of her legs. I remember her screams. My dad pulled me up from the ground, and I looked back, but all I remember is my mom shouting to get out of here and not to look back."
Kronos showed empathy, and his eyes were sad for me.
I smiled back, appreciating him as I continued. "Once I was out of the pack house, my father told me to stay put and that he would get my mother. I could see the flames engulf him as he ran back inside. Not a moment too soon, an explosion occurred, and I wailed for my parents."
Sighing, I played with my fingers. "I wish it was me that was under that beam. It shouldn't have been my mother. Or I should've been more careful..."
Kronos shook his head, quickly typing. 'You were a child, Rhea. Don't blame yourself. Your father was a hero for trying to save your mother.'
I smiled faintly at his words.
They meant everything to me.
He looked too perfect just sitting there on his bed. I sat across from him, making sure I kept a respectful distance.
The wounds Gaia left him were healing slowly, but I could tell he was doing much better. However, I could tell my mate was suffering. He was conflicted with many emotions.
"So why did you ask about what I remembered?"
'The fire started because of the rogue. I believe that rogue is linked to the attack that happened a month after, which caused my father to fall into a coma.' He responded.
I blinked, confused.
That explains why the fire started. I thought it was some freak accident.
"There was another attack on the pack house? How come I didn't know this?"
'Coco must've kept it from you. She had to. You had already been through so much, and just the month before, you had moved away and into your Aunt's place.'
Just how much did I miss...?
Seeing my puzzled expression, Kronos continued typing on his phone. 'When my father fell into a coma, I had been kidnapped and interrogated by the rogue leader. She used me to lure my father into her trap. The trap was a bunch of hidden rogues that had weapons laced with silver. As you know, silver is deadly if used correctly. It wasn't potent enough since my father took down more than half the rogues. That didn't stop them from slicing him because the rogue leader held the silver knife to my throat if he hadn't surrendered.'
He was only twelve when this all went down.
How can he be so calm telling me this story?
So badly, I wanted to hold him, caress his head, and tell him everything would be okay.
"You weren't tortured, were you?" I hesitantly asked.
Kronos stiffened as his eyes widened before quickly looking away from me. I timidly reached over to touch his shoulder, but he inched away from me. I guess what happened earlier was just in that moment and he let his guard down around me. Which allowed me to touch him.
I shouldn't be so greedy.
Need to be patient.
My wolf howled, saddened about the circumstances.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
Moments pass, and Kronos starts typing again.
'Don't be. I should be over this already, but I'm not. I can still remember their hands on me...' He stopped typing, and I could see his lips quiver before, all of a sudden, tears started falling from his face.
And then another... and another.
My mate touched his face, not noticing that he had already started crying and kept trying to wipe them away but to no avail. He tried hiding his face away from me, ashamed.
My mate fell apart in front of me and all I could do was watch helplessly.
Anger surged through me as I wanted to make whoever hurt him pay.
No matter what it takes.
