Kaisa brushed her unruly black tendrils of hair as she prepared for bed. She was halfway through her routine, when she heard a knock at the door...
"Coming!" She yelled in that direction.
Just then, she swung the door aside and saw who was standing there. She gazed at them for a moment, before speaking in a soft, polite tone.
"Hello there, how might I help you?"
The little boy standing before her could be no more than six, at most seven, and had curly brown hair and dusky skin.
"I have some muffins I, um, need to sell so I can earn my badge!"
"Oh, and are you a boy scout, little one?" She held back her smile.
"Yes, m-ma'am! Since last year, m-m-ma'am!"
"Well, guess what, since it's so late, that must mean you're such a hard worker, and in that case, I'll take two."
"Thank you, ma'am! We, um, we have blueberry and chocolate chip, and banana nut... "
"One banana nut and one blueberry, please!"She handed over the money.
"Thanks again, and have a good night!"
This time, she gave her emotions free rein and shot him her brightest smile.
"You too, little sir."With that, the child ran off in the opposite direction, and Kaisa turned back towards her front door, all the while thinking to herself,
What a nice, cute young boy... !
Little did she know, however, that this one simple encounter would change her life for the better.
