Bitterness
"Good morning, Pres," a student greeted me. Napangiti ako, appreciating the warmth in their voice.
One month had passed since the party, and now I was back at school. The corridors buzzed with the usual morning energy-a mix of students chatting, lockers slamming, and the occasional sound of laughter echoing through the halls. As I made my way to my locker, I shook off the memories and focused on the tasks ahead. There was a student council meeting later today, and I had to prepare my notes. As the student body president, it was my responsibility to ensure everything ran smoothly. Just as I was about to close my locker, I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Hey, how was your weekend, Pres?" It was Deo, sporting his usual cheerful grin. Napangiti ako at sabay nilock ang locker. "It was great, wala kasi akong nakitang mayabang those days, but now it feels so bad," I joked.
Deo and I were not only schoolmates but also fellow members of the student council. Deo was our year representative. Umakbay naman sakin si kumag. "You mean good day because I'm here," he teased back, patting my head. Napangiti lang ako sa ginawa niya.
As we walked towards the student council room, we were joined by a few other council members, all chatting excitedly about the upcoming school events. It was moments like these that reminded me why I loved being part of the student council. The sense of community and the opportunity to make a difference in our school was truly rewarding.
Entering the room, I took my seat at the head of the table and called the meeting to order. The chatter died down as everyone focused their attention on me.
"Good morning, everyone. Let's get started," I began, flipping through my notes. "First on the agenda is the upcoming Sports Festival. We need to finalize the details and assign tasks. Any suggestions?"
Hands shot up around the table, and as I listened to the enthusiastic ideas, I couldn't help but feel optimistic about the days ahead.
After the meeting, Deo and I decided to head to our classroom. Habang naglalakad kami hallway, I overheard some students talking about someone.
"Hoy, te, may transferee daw galing France," a student said.
"Yes, alam ko na, te," the other student replied.
I glanced at Deo, raising an eyebrow. "A new student from France, huh? Sounds interesting."
Deo nodded, his curiosity piqued as well. "I wonder what they're like. Maybe they'll join some clubs or even the council."
As we entered our classroom, the buzz of conversation continued, everyone seemingly excited about the new arrival. Our instructor walked in shortly after, silencing the chatter with a stern look.
"Settle down, everyone. Before we start, I'd like to introduce a new student," Sir Fonz announced. The door opened, and in walked a boy who made my eyes widen. "Please introduce yourself, hijo."
The boy smiled and gave a small wave. "Bonjour, everyone. My name is Tobias Dane Fuentebella. I look forward to getting to know you all."
Deo and I exchanged glances, both thinking the same thing-how did he end up here?
Tumingin muli ako sa lalaking nasa harap ng buong klase, and now he was looking at me. He gave me a little smile.
"Okay, thank you. Since you're a transferee and need some adjustment, I want you to sit beside Mr. Ylanan. He is the President of the student council, and I think he can help you adjust to the school environment. Are you okay with that, Mr. Ylanan?" Sir Fonz asked, looking at me.
"W-What, sir?" I blurted out, causing everyone in the classroom to look at me.
Damn!
I cleared my throat. "O-Okay, sir," I said, then looked at Tobi, who had been smiling at me.
