Izzy sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose, tired gaze shifting from the six book high stack next to her and over the multiple other stacks, folios and scrolls from the resource library in Magnus annex he lent her before slipping up to the glowing clock on the wall, rolling her neck, taking a deep breath, trying once more.
"Okay, So...the shifters are turned and t-"
Raphael shook his head, waving her off, pacing around the room in an effort to stay alert, giving an exasperated sigh, flickering through the pages of the book he's currently holding.
"No- Weres are turned. Shifters are the ones that are born..." he paused, flicking through a few more pages, head tilting.
"W-well...usually. Apparently after they're turned the were characteristics becomes a genetic trait so any future children will more than likely be weres as well...but not always. It's a dominant gene unless the other parent is a warlock as the warlock gene tends to supersede the were gene but not the shifter gene unless the were is in the draconis fera or Felis catus genus as these two override the warlock genetics with the exception of first or second generation warlocks which..." Raphael groaned, rubbing his face, rolling not only his eyes but his whole head.
"Ay dios mío. How the hell are we ever gonna get this?" he sighed, slumping, leaning against the counter.
Izzy huffed, giving a helpless wave, eyes wide.
"I have no clue. I mean I know we likely don't have to know all of it- or even most of it really- we sure as hell don't need to know it at two thirty in the morning. Magnus said I can keep the books as long as I like and take as many as I want. We have time and it's not like we're gonna be quizzed on it but..." she sighed, shrugging helplessly.
"Damnit I've never felt this far behind and lost on a subject in my entire life. I usually can slip into a new field of study as easily as I can slip into a kickass pair of heels but this is just all going over my head.
I feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark and everyone's speaking an Australian version of old English to where even though I recognize most all of the words I still don't know what the hell they're actually saying. I swear every conversation with them just leaves me even more confused."
Raphael nodded animatedly, pushing off the counter, casually slipping across the kitchen, settling next to her.
"Right!? And you just feel so stupid cause they're looking at you like you grew two heads when you say something that seems completely normal and even flat out obvious then they try to explain what it is on their side and you get all the words but they just don't register right and you keep getting that mental 'error; does not compute' message and then you're stuck giving them the two headed look!"
Izzy laughed, nodding animatedly, waving towards him.
"Exactly! Like don't get me wrong; talking to Clary is great. She's smart and funny and sexy and really kickass and she's absolutely fascinating but I can't make it through two sentences without stumbling over something and feeling like an idiot or a total ass- or both."
