Blood was splattered on the desolate plains, horror was etched onto Ezekiel's face, his panic bubbling up to the surface.
Ezekiel dropped his spear, his fingers trembling like a leaf in a heavy windstorm. He dropped to his knees, his halo flickering rapidly, his hand trembling as he reached out for the slain human drenched in scarlet.
How could he had let them get murdered under his watch?Ezekiel's wings shook uncontrollably, his breathing as heavy as the sins that weighed down on his shoulders. He clutched the slain human close to his chest, whispering panicked prayers under his breath as he tried to process on what just happened; He was just starting to build some sort of camaraderie with the human whom he was assigned to look over, and he had foolishly let the human go out by themselves for one evening, and now... They were mangled in a barren field.
He had failed his human. And now, Ezekiel knew he was going to be punished for letting his human die, and this terrified him, as he did not want to fall from grace and would have to reside with the beings he detests so greatly.
His breathing quickened, trying his best as an guardian angel to heal the slain human, but all he did was scramble around like a chicken without a head. Suddenly, a deep voice alerted Ezekiel of their presence.
"Ezekiel,"
Ezekiel's heart thudded down to his stomach, whipping his head around to face his father, God."F-Father! Let me explain, t-this was an accident! I promise!" Ezekiel stammered out, a look of terror in his wide eyes, but the bright light in front of him silenced him with their voice that spoke volumes of authority.
"Ezekiel," God repeated before adding,
"Thee has't purposely alloweth a human und'r thy careth p'rish. Th're is nay falsing to me, thee knoweth yond." God said with their usual calm and collected voice. Ezekiel trembled violently under God's judgmental gaze, Ezekiel's eyes wide with desperation.
"Please, my Lord! I beg of you, please, please let my make up for my mistakes! I swear it was an accident!" Ezekiel pleaded with a weak voice, his panic making his voice softer than his usual voice that always had confidence in it. Ezekiel remained on his knees, gently setting the human down on the cracked, dry dirt.
"Please, my Lord. Please give me one last chance to prove my vindication." Ezekiel beseeched again, his eyes wide with desperation.God stayed quiet for a moment before responding,
"Thee shalt has't one m're chance, one m're chance to proveth yourself as a w'rthy guardian angel, and thee shall proveth yond by fixing thy past mistakes, fixing those folk watching ov'r anoth'r human." God said with a eerie calmness, Ezekiel's eyes grew wider in relief and shock.
"T-Thank you, my Lord! That would be most certainly lovely! Who shall I take care of?" Ezekiel stammered over his words, his brain moving faster than his mouth.Ezekiel immediately regretted his choices, as the human he was recently assigned was more naive than a child with their child like innocence. Zain was the human's name, his hazel eyes sparkled with innocence as he was getting manipulated into something yet again, having to make Ezekiel step in for God knows how much.
