16 year old Sirius stood in the back of the crowd that had gathered with james, Peter, Remus, and lily listening to his mother scorn and curse his younger brother out. His eyebrows were furrowed, eyes closed, and head bowed. His breaking point was coming soon. James placed a hand on Sirius' shoulder.
The contact seem to jolt Sirius out of his trance and rage flared in his eyes. He shrugged james' hand off and started pushing through the crowd. Once people started to realize who it was they cleared a path for him.
Sirius steps in front of regulas, his eyes blazing and enraged. His mother fell silent when he saw her oldest step in. He took a fighting stance, one foot in front of the other and shoulder stiff, his hand held his wand tightly at his side.
"Enough," Sirius said coldly and slowly. No one but their mother missed regulas reaching up and gripping the back of Sirius' shirt. Their mother cackled loudly.
"What are you going to do? you're worthless. A waste of space. A disappointment. A gryffindor," his mother snarls. The crowd hushed and the only sounds were the teachers trying to force their way through the crowd. Sirius tensed even more when his mother raised her wand.
"Looks like I need to teach you yet another lesson, son," she snarled. "Crucio!" Sirius felt unbelievable pain but he was used to it. He try to fight the pain that was willing his knee to bend and forcing his lips to open in a scream.
Sirius' knees gave out and he crashed to the floor. A scream left his lips and his mothers lips curled. Sirius was blinded by the pain when a familiar voice shouted. Remus.
"Expelliarmus!" the wand flew out of Sirius' mothers hand and clattered to the floor. She looked surprised and Remus, lily, and James helped Sirius get to his knees. All three were furious but they helped Sirius first.
"So you have two pathetic friends and a mudblood helping you!? pathetic!" his mother cackled. She turned away and was about to walk away but Sirius reached for his wand that had fallen to the floor. He forced himself to get up. He raised his wand and pointed at the awful woman. He was weak but his wand was steady. His mother turned back towards him.
"Do it! You can't, can you?" she cackled. Sirius' jaw locked and his eyes were cold. A warm hand landed on his shoulder and Sirius felt the warning Remus was trying to give but he took the risk anyway.
Sirius didn't even have to say the incantation. He slashed the air with his wand and a jet of purple left his wand. It didn't hit his mother though. She deflected it and swept away. Sirius sighed and seem to deflate. His knees have out from the cruciatus curse and the curse he had just preform. Remus and James caught him. The last he saw before he blacked out was their worried faces.
