A/N) Yeah, so it's kind of been three months since I last updated this. My bad. I sort of forgot where I was going with this. But I've redesigned my storyline so I'm finally continuing it. Sorry for the wait and I hope you enjoy this chapter!
The crew swam upwards through the strong currents of the water, no one saying much, even though their new helmets allowed them to speak and breathe easily even underwater. A kind gift from their new friends the Octonauts, although the engineer had seemed a little - cautious about giving them her design. After eating the first proper meal that they had had in ages, they had made polite conversation for another hour, before leaving amid promises of next visits. Hector had politely declined Kwazii's offer of going up with them back to the ship, even though the young pirate had been very eager.
"She knows," came Kan's cool voice from over the radio, seeming to have read Hector's mind.
"The engineer's a clever one," was the reply. "She's not as easily taken in as the cat."
"Trouble?" inquired Annabel from the other side of Kan.
Hector smiled. "Almost certainly. That's why she's going to be very useful to us."
The three reached the surface, followed half a minute later by Nut, who had been weakly struggling to swim in the strong currents. Instead of helping him up onto the deck of their battered ship, Hector slapped Nut's grasping hand away and walked off towards the centre with a spiteful comment of 'weakling'.
"We soon won't need him any longer," Hector said quietly to Annabel and Kan, gesturing to the weakly scrabbling Nut, trying to pull himself up onto the deck. "We will have all we need."
"This place is falling to bits," Annabel complained, looking around at the stained wooden exterior of their ship. Her voice was very different from her earlier voice when chatting animatedly with Dashi. "And my face hurts from all that smiling."
"Their ship is very beautifully designed," mused Kan. "So clean and huge!"
"Can't we just steal theirs and be done with it?" Annabel yawned.
Hector shook his head solemnly. "Too risky. They'd never fall for it. The Octonauts may come off as over-friendly and naive, but they're powerful. Carry on with the plan."
Annabel adjusted her grey eyepatch, smiling coolly. "Okay, boss."
Nut finally made it onto the deck and was quick to scurry over to Hector, looking earnest and hopeful. He knew nothing of the plan, Hector reminded the others with a look, and his only motion to Nut was to cuff him harshly over the head. "Haven't you got some repairs to be doing, engineer?"
Nut nodded fearfully and ran off, hanging his head.
"Soon pirates will prevail," Hector announced. "Not too much longer, my crew."
As the others headed away to their cramped sleeping quarters, stifling yawns, Hector mused over the younger cat, Kwazii. He was obviously desperate for approval from one of the most prestigious pirates there was, and his warped view of pirating was strong in his head. Yet there was talent there, and he did come from real pirate backgrounds. It was just a pity that he was trying to be a 'good' pirate, when there was really no such thing in Hector's view. He had never sunk an enemy ship, or stolen treasure from other ships, or carried out raids on villages. But all that would be to come.
How could Kwazii resist a place on the crew of the famous Hector?
