"You said what?!" Mom squeaks, turning to look at me.

I wince. "I know I should've talked to you first. I just ... You're always telling me to get out of my comfort zone, so I made a quick decision." I sputter, trying to make my decision make sense.

"Are you kidding?" Mom asks, and I prepare myself for the worst. "I couldn't be happier!"

...........

What?

"What?" I turn to look at her, very confused.

"Honey, I'm so proud of you! I've been waiting for this day." She says, looking at the ceiling of the hallway we're in. I called her inside in a panic, seconds after I accepted.

"But ... mom ... this is such a big thing." I say confused. "I should've needed to know from you first." I tilt my head with furrowed brows.

"Honey unless it's illegal, I want you to get out of your shell. So I'm all for it." Mom beams at me, and my jaw drops.

"No other parents act like this." I whisper, more to myself than anyone.

"Honey." Mom puts a hand on my shoulder. "No other kids are like this." She says, gesturing towards me. "If it gets you out of the house in a way where I don't have to drag you out kicking and screaming; then that's a win in my book." Mom smiles so bright I can't help but smile back.

"I'm gonna be a nurse for UA." I mumble, a little baffled. Looking into my mother's eyes, I pause. " ... Mom ... I made it. I'm in UA." The smile that spreads across my face is so wide it almost hurts.

"I'm just so proud of you!" She pulls me in again, and I swear I've never felt happier.

"We can help with moving, if it's too much for you." Nezu suggests looking over some documents.

"No. I think I'll be ok." I say, signing one of many contracts that detail working for UA. Among housing agreements, and many other papers. "I don't have that much stuff to move anyway." I shrug.

"Quick question ... Does she have to live in the dorms?" Mom asks, also singing papers. "Not that I have a problem with it." She says, shrugging off her own question.

"It is most ideal that she stay within the school grounds. All of our students are in dorms as well." Nezu leans forward setting some documents on the table, and inter lacing his ... hands? ... Paws? I'm not really sure. "Our teachers, and select staff also live on campus, and given the fact that you are both ... It only makes sense to me that you would stay here." He says, grabbing and sipping his tea while closing his eyes.

"Then I'll move in." I say simply. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see my mom smile. I almost never make decisions so quickly, so I'm sure she's enjoying seeing me like this.

After all the signing is done, Nezu leads me around campus in an effort to get me used to the layout. And when he leads me to ... my office, my jaw goes slack. It really is nothing special, it's just ... mine.

I have an office ...

"This is where you'll spend much of your time with us. I suggest you spent a good amount of time in here and get to know everything's placement well." Nezu hums.

"Ok." I mumble, looking around the space. It's simple; about five beds, a few fully stocked medical cabinets, a sink, a bathroom, and a desk. Like I said not much ... and my brows draw together. "N-Nezu? Not in a bad way, but I thought, for the size of UA, it'd be bigger than this. N-not that it's small. I-I just thought that it'd be more like ... maybe a hospital? I-I don't know." I stutter, wishing I hadn't even asked.

"Hmm ... " He pauses. "I guess it would be bigger if we had students stay in here longer. But most of the kids that come in here, come out partially, or fully healed." He explains, turning, and looking up at me.

"Oh ... right." I mumble, averting my gaze to the floor.

"Besides, if their injuries are bad enough, they get sent to the hospital along with our nurse." He explains further, bowing his head. "We hate to see our students and staff get hurt, but in this path ... it is rather unavoidable." He just shakes his head. "But further away from such a depressing topic, I feel I should show you to the dorms next."

The walk there takes about ten minutes, but we were walking pretty slow with Nezu talking the whole way there. But eventually, I stand in front of class 3A's dorm building, and for about the millionth time today. My jaw drops.

This is where I'm living?

When we walk inside I hear mom scoff. "This is bigger than most restaurants' kitchens." She turns to look at me and smiles. "You lucky little shit." She whispers, so only I can hear.

My face drops, baffled. "Mom!" I whisper yell, gently hitting her arm. She just grins at me and walks away.

I turn to follow her, but Nezu stops me. "Here is a floor plan of the vacant rooms for the girls side of the dorms. Feel free to pick whichever one you like, I believe there is an open room on every floor." He says, smiling warmly.

"Oh ... Thank you." I mumble looking at the paper he handed me.

Looking it over, for the first time today I make a normal decision. I pick the fifth floor. There's only one other girl on it, and the way I plan we'll be on opposite ends of the hall. I grab the pen that somehow ended up in my back pocket, and circle my soon to be room.

"Oh come on." Mom pops up out of nowhere looking over my shoulder. "You could be a little closer to her."

I roll my eyes and turn towards her. "I've been making risky decisions all day ... Will you just let me have this one?" I ask, crossing my arms.

"I'll let this one slide, but you have to promise to keep pushing yourself, and make more of these 'risky' decisions." She smiles, half joking, but I can see the seriousness in her eyes.

"I promise, I will try to make some risky decisions. Ok?" I say, begrudgingly nodding my head.

"I'm serious. Maybe try actually talking to your classmates." Mom suggests, putting her hands on my shoulders. "Who knows ... maybe there's a cute boy in your class." She smiles and winks, making my cheeks flare with red.

"Mom! No!" I turn away, putting my hands over my cheeks. "Don't be weird." I squeak, making her laugh.

"I'm telling you I can feel it. You're gonna find an irresistible hottie and boom ... happily ever after." She smiles putting her hand around my shoulder.

Hah. Yeah right ...
