Marleen's stomach fluttered with nervous butterflies as she sat across from Daniel. The conversation flowed easily, punctuated by shared laughter and comfortable silences. Yet, with every stolen glance, with every warm smile Daniel sent her way, a shadow of unease crept in. Alex, with her fiery hair and enigmatic presence, wouldn't leave Marleen's thoughts. It felt like a betrayal to the genuine connection she was building with Daniel to be so affected by another.

"Alright," Daniel said, finally tearing his gaze away from the menu, "Ready to order these legendary cinnamon rolls?"

Marleen's heart leaped into her throat. Just as she opened her mouth to reply, a familiar voice chimed in from behind them.

"Looking for something delicious?"

Marleen froze. It was Alex, leaning against their table, her red waves cascading down her shoulders, a faint smile playing on her lips. Marleen's face flushed crimson, a cocktail of emotions swirling within her - confusion, guilt, a flicker of something she couldn't quite define.

Suddenly, the cozy intimacy she'd shared with Daniel moments ago felt shattered. The air seemed to crackle with unspoken tension.

"Uh, hi Alex," Marleen stammered, her voice strained. "This is... Daniel."

Daniel, oblivious to the undercurrent of tension, offered Alex a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you," he said.

Alex returned the smile, her gaze lingering on Marleen for a beat too long. "Likewise," she said, her voice a husky murmur that sent shivers down Marleen's spine.

"Actually," Marleen blurted out, desperate to break the sudden awkwardness, "I think I need to use the restroom. Can you guys decide what you want to order? I'll be right back."

Without waiting for a response, Marleen practically bolted, the blood pounding in her ears. Reaching the sanctuary of the bathroom, she locked herself in a stall, her breathing shallow and rapid. Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion.

Why did Alex affect her so deeply? Why did the thought of her ignite a spark of excitement that felt reckless and dangerous? Marleen had craved normalcy, a connection like the one she felt with Daniel, yet the memory of Alex's nearness sent a jolt of electricity through her.

Just then, the sound of the door opening startled Marleen. She peeked out, expecting to find an empty restroom. But instead, Alex stood there, her chocolate eyes locking onto Marleen's.

"Hey," Alex said, her voice a low whisper. "You okay?"

Marleen opened her mouth to lie, to deny the turmoil churning within her. But the words wouldn't come. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm echoing the confusion in her mind.

Alex, sensing Marleen's distress, took a step closer. "Are you sure everything's alright?" she asked, her voice laced with a concern that made Marleen's breath hitch.

Marleen could only nod, her cheeks flushing pink again. The air grew thick, charged with a sense of forbidden electricity. Alex's gaze dropped, trailing down Marleen's body for a fleeting moment before locking eyes with her again.

In a swift, yet strangely gentle movement, Alex pinned Marleen against the wall with one hand, her other hand cupping Marleen's cheek. Marleen's breath caught in her throat. This was wrong, reckless, everything she shouldn't crave. Yet, a thrill vibrated through her, fueled by the heat in Alex's touch, the intensity in her gaze.

"Marleen," Alex murmured, her voice a husky whisper against Marleen's ear, "Are you hiding something?"
Marleen's heart thudded against her ribs, a frantic drum solo against the sudden stillness of the bathroom. The air grew thick, the sterile scent of disinfectant overwhelmed by the intoxicating aroma of Alex's perfume - a mix of vanilla and something decidedly more musky.
