The vanishing of Will Byers/Chapter 1

"Something is coming. Something hungry for blood." I sat on the edge of my chair in anticipation, bouncing my leg up and down "A shadow grows on the wall behind you,swallowing you in darkness. It's almost here." Mike says "What is it?" Will asks "What if it's the Demogorgon?" Dustin says, I groan leaning back in my chair "Oh,Jesus, we're so screwed if it's the Demogorgon." "It's not the Demogorgon '' Lucas assures Dustin "An army of troglodytes charge into the chamber!" Mike slams the troglodyte piece onto the table "Troglodytes?" Dustin says with a playful smirk on his face "Told ya." Lucas says with a cocky smile on his face we all laugh. "Wait a minute." Mike says, "Did you hear that?" he looks behind him my eyebrows knit together "That...that sound? Boom...boom...Boom!" Mike slams his hands onto the table I jump back a little "That didn't come from the troglodytes. No that...That came from something else." I leaned forward in my seat "The Demogorgon!" Mike slams the Demogorgon piece onto the table me and the boys groan in defeat "Fuck" I say burying my face into my hands "We're in deep shit" Dustin says, I nod in agreement "Will,your action!" "I don't know!" Will says "Fireball him!" Lucas urges "He'd have to roll a 13 or higher!" I speak up "Too risky. Cast a protection spell." Dustin advises "Don't be a pussy. Fireball him!" Lucas says again "Cast protection." Dustin says, Mike slams his hands onto the table again "The Demogorgon is tired of your silly human bickering! It stomps towards you. Boom!" Mike says loudly "Fireball him!" "Another stomp,Boom!" "Cast protection." Lucas and Dustin start going back and forth. "Guys shut up and let him focus!" I speak up "He roars in anger!" Will picks up the dice rolling them "Fireball!" Will shouts releasing the dice onto the table but they go rolling on the floor instead, we all get up out of our seats to look for them "Oh shit" I curse under my breath "Where'd it go?" Lucas says "I don't know!" Will says "Is it a 13?" Dustin asks 'I don't know!" I say, Dustin starts pacing back and forth chanting, "Oh my god!" "Hey Henderson how about help us instead of standing there" I say from under the table "Mike! Mckinley" I hear mom say from upstairs but I ignore her, "Mike! Mckinley!" Mom then opens the door and me and my brother look up at her "Mom,we're in the middle of a campaign!" Mike says defensively "You mean the end? Fifteen after." Mom says pointing at her wrist and walks away. We rushed up the stairs after her, "Mom, wait just 20 more minutes!" I begged behind Mike "It's a school night,Kinley. I just put Holly to bed. You can finish next weekend." "But that'll ruin the flow!" Mike spoke up "Michael-" "We're serious,Mom." me and Mike say in unison "The campaign took two weeks to plan. How were we supposed to know it was gonna take ten hours?" Mike says "You guys have been playing for ten hours?" Mom questioned looking at me and Mike with shock, I turned to Dad "Dad, don't you think that 20 more-" "I think you guys should listen to your mother." Dad said cutting me off I rolled my eyes and walked away Mike trailing behind me.

"There's something wrong with your sister." Dustin says to me and Mike walking out the garage door "What are you talking about?" Mike questions "She's got a stick up her butt" The curly hair boy says walking to his bike "Yeah. It's because she's been dating that douche-bag, Steve Harrington." Lucas interjects "Yeah, she's turning into a real jerk." Dustin says "She's always been a real jerk." Mike says "No she hasn't" I say defending Nancy, yeah she had her moments when she was mean to us but she wasn't always a jerk, "Nuh-uh,she used to be cool. Like that time she dressed up as an elf for our Elder tree campaign." Dustin said "Yeah four years ago!" Mike yelled, "Just saying." Dustin said biking off "Later" Lucas said catching up to him. I walked over to Will and ruffled his hair. "Night,Will the wise" he chuckled and swatted my hand away "Night, Sir Kinley" I hugged him and went inside leaving him and Mike alone outside.

"Good morning" I said walking into the kitchen "Morning sweetie" Mom said, the phone rang "Kinley do you mind answering it?" Mom asked holding Holly I walked over to the phone picking it up "Hello, Wheeler's residence Mckinley Wheeler speaking" I spoke into the phone leaning my back on the counter "Hi Mckinley,it's Joyce" "Oh hi Ms.Byers-" "What the hell,Mike?" I was cut off by the sound of Nancy yelling at Mike and Mom shushing them,"Was that Will I heard back there?" Joyce asked. Will? "Oh no, it's just Mike and Nancy' I said reassuring her, "Will didn't spend the night, did he sweetie?" Joyce questioned "Uh no he didn't. Is everything okay Ms.Byers is Will home?" I asked a little worried "Yeah, everything's okay sweetheart, I think he just left for school" she said "Oh alright, have a good day Ms,Byers" "You too sweetie".

I hung up the phone and went to sit down next to Mike. "Everything okay?' he asked me. "Yeah" I said, trying not to worry him.

"That's weird. I don't see him" Mike said looking for Will "I'm telling you, his mom's right. He probably just went to class early again." Lucas assured "Yeah, he's always paranoid, Gursky's gonna give him another pop quiz." Dustin interjected, "Step right up, ladies and gentlemen." Fucking great. I turned to see Troy and James standing in front of us "Step right up and get your tickets for the freak show" "Well if it isn't the ring master" I said sarcastically, Troy shot me a glare "Who do you think would make more money in a freak show?" Troy asked, stepping closer to us "Midnight,Frog face,She-man,or Toothless?" He punched each of our shoulders,James looked at all of us and put his hand up to his chin like he was thinking he then smiled looking at Dustin "I'd go with Toothless." he said mimicking Dustin's lisp "I told you a million times, my teeth are coming in. It's called cleidocranial dysplasia." Dustin defended "I told you a million times." James mimicked Dustin again "Alright that's enough assholes" I said, I went face to face with Troy but before anything happened Mike grabbed the back of my hoodie."Do the arm thing" Troy said pointing at Dustin he shook his head "Do it freak!" James demanded I clenched my jaw staring at the blonde boy I was trying my best not to punch him, Dustin took of his jacket and his backpack he then stretched his arms forward causing his bones to make a cracking sound making me grimace at the sound and the two fucktards groan "God, it gets me every time." Troy said as he and James pushed past us walking away. "Assholes" Lucas said "I'm gonna hurt them" I said "I think it's kinda cool. It's like you have superpowers or something. Like Mr.Fantastic" Mike assured Dustin "Yeah. except I can't fight evil with it." Dustin said as we started walking into the school.

The bell rang and me and the boys ran up to Mr.Clarke's desk like kids in a candy store, "So, did it come?" Mike asked excitedly, "Sorry,boys and girl." Mr.Clarke said with a disappointed look "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but..." we all looked at him upset, "It came."

We rushed into the AV room to see the radio on the table, we ran up to it and started messing with the nobs "The Heath kit ham shack. Ain't she beaut?" me and the boys stared at the radio in awe "I bet you can talk to New York on this thing." Dustin said "Think bigger" Mr.Clarke said "California?" Lucas questioned "Bigger" "Canada?" I asked "Close" Mr.Clarke said pointing at me "Australia?" Mike interjected, Mr.Clarke nodded his head with a smile on his face "Oh man! When Will sees this, he's totally gonna blow his shit." Lucas exclaimed "Lucas!" Mr.Clarke scolded "Sorry." Lucas apologizes slightly embarrassed, causing me and Dustin to giggle. "Hello this is Mike Wheeler, president of Hawkins middle AV Club." Mike spoke into the microphone in an Australian accent causing me to laugh, Dustin then grabbed the headphones off Mike's head putting them on "What are you doing?" Mike asked the curly haired boy laughing "Hello,this is Dustin, and this is the secretary and treasurer of Hawkins middle AV Club. Do you eat kangaroos for breakfast?" Dustin spoke into the microphone also using an Australian accent. I went to grab the headphones from Dustin but the moment was ruined when the principal came into the room with the chief behind him "Sorry to interrupt,but,uh, may I borrow Michael, Mckinley, Lucas and Dustin?"
Oh shit.

A/N: Okay so I'm gonna be more consistent with this book. My stranger things obsession is slowly coming back 😭
