The night was dark while Rick sat behind the counter at the dreaded candy store, waiting for someone to come within from the dead of night. His fingers tapped as he sighed, clearly not satisfied with any outcome given to him, hopping from one job to the next he constantly finds himself In the same place as before. Hopeless and well...still fat.

One of the candy bags fell from the display on the far side of the store, a sign either someone misplaced it or there was too much leftover to put anywhere. Trudging over and around the isles to get to the bag he passes an assortment of hard candies, packaged in plastic bags with little stripes or dots that symbolized the colors of the store: Pastel pink, pale blue, and an everso sterile form of white. At one time beautiful candies for all to adore, but in the mist of the moonlight they felt empty, cold even. His attention shifted to the lights in the store dimming before going completely off. Rick pulled out his phone to check the time to see if he had lost track of it... 9:08, no things were fine. he flipped it shut and groaned, thankful no one in this moment is here. Things were a mess and he had no clue why they even stayed open this late, it was ridiculous.

A wandering gumball rolled across the floor and hit the side of his shoe. He turned his head to continue to walk towards the fallen bag of candy, scooping up the pieces in his hands, his chubby hands...God  He thought to himself, wishing his intrusive thoughts would just go away and leave him be, he didnt want to be this way, live this life, he wanted something different..but what he didnt know. Taking a deep breath in and out he makes his way to the back, a handful of gumballs in his hand. Rick meanders twoards the back where the freezer and the breaker box were held in respective rooms. The candy worker swipes an extra candy bag from the backstock, drops the gumballs into it before setting it aside, Pausing as he hears something faint but inaudiable

Oh my gosh, do you think theyre still open?

I dunno, the sign is still on...

Instantly he knew it was late stragglers, the ones who come in right as you start to close for the night, making you do several things that are inconviences of time. After a moment of fighting the urge to turn the open sign off in the breaker box, he fannagles the switch to turn the main store lights and succeeds after a few tries. He hears the sliding doors open to the front of the store, walking back up to the counter with his large stature, not even trying at this point to feign a customer service smile. That is until he spots you.
