"Hey, Aiden! You really have to get back to school, so stop moping in your room! Or at least tell me why you're so sad already!" An angry, but mostly concerned, mother said.
"...No thanks. Sorry, mom. 'Sides, I can do most of my work online..." The son she was concerned for replied, tiredly.
"You little... at least come down! You haven't come out of your room for weeks!" His mother yelled, again... "At least give me one tiny reason!"
Aiden sighed, and decided to give in. His mom had been pestering him about for so long already, he might as well tell her....
"You really wanna know why? It's because..." The boy hesitated. He shouldn't, no, couldn't say it out loud. That would make it really, truly, real.
"Hiiii! Hey! Tell me, tell meeee!! I wanna know tooooooo!" The only cheerful voice in the house interrupted.
"Cause... I'm hearing things again..." the boy said, dismissing the voice's presence.
"Because what?" She asked, now incredibly curious.
"Never mind actually..." he managed to drawl out, before almost shrieking due to a sudden cold pressing in his face. Luckily, he didn't.
"What?!" She asked, actually thinking she would get an answer this time. "Just tell me what's wrong, you- sigh. ...Fine, but dinner will be ready in 2 hours, you'd better eat on the dining table today."
"Yeah... Fine, whatever. I'm gonna take a nap..."
"Hey... stop ignoring me!! I'm really real, I tell you! I'm just a ghost!" The formerly cheerful voice was now slightly irritated.
"...uh huh. I believe you."
"I can even prove it!"
"Yeah, right..." he said, until he felt another cold touch from the so called 'hallucination'. ...and he could suddenly see a faint outline of..
"See, see! I told you! It's really me, Cosmo! Don't you remember me?"
...This time, he actually shrieked.
To be continued... 👻🎃 released on 10/29/24 (Happy early Halloween!!)
