AUTHOR'S POV
Kiara Kapoor felt the tune of "Here Comes the Bride" vibrate through her like a poorly placed stitch; it was unexpected and surprising. She should have been a picture of happiness at 25, surrounded by the festive sounds of a typical Indian wedding and showered in the welcoming glow of fairy lights. Yash, the man who had captured her heart for the previous three years, was going to be her husband, after all.
But a knot of fear tightened in Kiara's gut as she peered through the finely embroidered veil. Her spouse, Yash, was nowhere to be seen. The realization of how serious things were gave her a panic attack. Her greatest suspicions were verified by a single, heartbroken glimpse at her own tearful mother. Just before the ceremony, Yash disappeared like a gust of smoke, leaving his feet chilly.
Her mother's choking sobbing, desperate phone calls, and quiet whispers all blended together to create an unsettling chaos. A last-ditch effort was made, with the wedding guests getting restless and the caterers eyeing the uneaten delights with predatory hunger. Yash's older cousin, Aarav Malhotra, CEO of a fashion industry, walked up, a mask of calmness barely covering his boiling annoyance. Aarav, a self-made billionaire at the mature age of 28, was the complete opposite of Kiara's cheerful personality. Control was his thing, and this unplanned drama was a wrinkle he would never easily forget.
Kiara cried out, her words barely audible over the wedding march that had been playing ruthlessly on repeat. "There has to be another way," she said. Aarav's steely gray eyes took on an aggressive voice that seemed to warn, "There might be, but it won't be pretty." Kiara felt a lump in her throat as the gravity of the situation hit her. The tune of "Here Comes the Bride" came again, only for a wedding far stranger than she had ever imagined. Superb interior designer Kiara Kapoor had no intention of getting married to her true love. She was going to the altar today with none other than Aarav Malhotra, the CEO of excess and a type of grumpy.
