Author's POV
He swung his sword, decapitating the man with a single, precise stroke. The village lay in ruin, littered with corpses and drenched in blood. In his early thirties, the warrior turned and strode towards the last remaining hut. Inside, a beautiful baby girl lay sleeping in a cradle, her beauty arresting his attention. He was captivated by her innocent charm. A voice from the doorway interrupted his reverie, drawing his attention.
"What is the matter?" The man inquired, stepping inside and glancing at the child. "Do not be deceived by her innocence, brother. End her life."
The warrior nodded, drawing a golden dagger with a red stone set in the hilt. He tightened his grip but hesitated, unable to bring himself to kill the child. He gazed at her for several minutes before finally relinquishing his resolve. He sheathed the dagger and gently lifted the girl, smiling as she snuggled into him.
"What are you doing?" the man demanded.
"She may pose a threat, Leo, but she is still a child. I cannot bring myself to slay an innocent."
"She is not merely a child, Aurelius. She is a calamity waiting to unfold. You are aware of her capabilities."
"I comprehend her potential for destruction, but I do not believe that killing her is the only solution," Aurelius replied.
Leo grew furious. "We did not massacre those villagers merely to let her live, Aurelius. Kill her and let us depart."
Aurelius opened his mouth to respond, but paused when the girl gurgled and opened her eyes, revealing icy blue irises. Leo recoiled at her gaze, knowing the danger she posed.
"She is merely a child, Leo. Remain calm."
"You must kill her, Aurelius. Now!"
Aurelius shook his head, "No!" Hearing his answer, Leo stepped forward, snatched the dagger, and lunged at the girl. Suddenly, a powerful wave emanated from her, flinging Leo against the wall. He crumpled to the ground, stunned. Aurelius, equally shocked, realized she was unkillable. He smiled, "It appears we shall have to take her with us."
Leo groaned, struggling to his feet. Aurelius walked past him towards the exit, but Leo grabbed his arm, getting his attention, "She is cursed, Aurelius. Her powers are a curse, not a blessing. You cannot take her with you."
Aurelius smiled again, "She might be cursed, brother, but she shall be most advantageous to us. No kingdom will be able to stand against us with her by our side," he lied. His true intentions were pure. The child in his arms was a harbinger of death, created by the sacrifice of twenty-one witches to become the most powerful being alive. She was immortal, undefeatable, and extremely dangerous. The only way to protect the world from her was to guide her along the right path and give her a proper upbringing.
