Little flashback about Avery Dawson and her family.

"I'm so proud of you, sweetie. I really am." Marissa Dawson said to her twenty-one-year-old daughter Avery as she jumped with joy at passing the police academy.

"Thanks, Mum." Avery said, hugging her mother.

"Do you know where you'll be stationed at?" Marissa asked Avery.

"I don't exactly know yet. Inspector Falcon-Price said it would either be at St David's or Mount Thomas. I'm hoping it'll be Mount Thomas. The St. David's police station is really big." Avery said, calming down.

"I hope it'll be Mount Thomas, too. I don't go much on Monica Draper, and I know you love the country." Marissa said, sneering at just mentioning Monica Drappers name.

"What's going on." Andrew Avery's eldest brother asked.

"I was telling Mum how I passed the police academy." Avery said, trying to keep it friendly with Andrew.

Andrew grunted. "Congratulations, I suppose." Andrew said, walking back to his bedroom.

"When's the others coming home." Casey Avery's older sister asked her mother.

"They should be here any minute now. I can't wait to tell your father." Marissa said happily.

Avery grunted. Avery had never seen eye to eye with her father. Avery was the youngest out of them all. Maxwell Dawson wanted at least one of his daughters to be ladylike, and neither Casey nor Avery were ladylike, which annoyed and upset him. Every time Casey or Avery got any achievements or discussed their goals with their father, he would always say,

"Shouldn't there be something to clean or wash instead or go help your mother cook something? Be more ladylike. You are training to be housewives, not husbands."

Casey or Avery never really wanted a man or woman permanently in their lives controlling them.

"I'm going to get washed up." Avery said gloomily.

"OK, honey. Don't be too long and dress nicely. We're going out after the others get home." Marissa said to Avery's retreating back.

Avery went to her wardrobe, picked out a nice long-sleeved grey dress, and walked to the bathroom. Avery shut the bathroom door and locked it. She turned the shower on and opened the bathroom drawer where she kept her make-up bag. Inside the bag was a black door nob-shaped device that held the door nob locked. Avery had brought the device not too long ago. Every time she showered or bathed her father or her brother, Andrew would 'accidentally' walk in on her.

Avery put the device on the door nob and stripped out of her clothes, putting her bra and underwear on the towel cabinet since she had only put them on this morning. Avery ran some soft shampoo and conditioner in her hair and rinsed it out.

There came a knock on the bathroom door.

"Avery darling, would you like me to do your make up." Marissa said behind the door.

"Sure, mum, let me finish up." Avery said, shutting off the shower.

After Avery had dried herself and put her clothes on, she walked out to her mother, who was sitting at the kitchen table already with her make-up bag.

"Where did that dress come from? I haven't seen that before." Marissa said as Avery sat down on a kitchen chair.

"Nan got it for me when I went to the police ball. It had a navy blue ribbon around the waist, but I lost the ribbon." Avery said, looking down at her dress.

The front door opened, and in came Maxwell, Oliver, and Jackson.

"Where are you going all dressed up." Maxwell said, looking at Casey.
