I surprised Cat and her family when I was discharged. I spent the last few years in Shifter Army. I was let go due to injury and I came straight to Cat's place. Mom told me Corbin is now in his sophomore year of high school.
I pulled up to the house and I knocked on the door when a boy, I've never seen before, answered. "Hello." I said.
"Hi, can I help you?" He asked.
"Ghost, who is at the door so early?" It was Cat's voice. She came up behind the boy. "Butch." She smiled. "Welcome home."
"Hey, Cat." I hugged her. "Who's this kid?" Mom had mentioned that Cat and Max adopted an orphan.
"This is our son, Ghost."
"Ghost?"
"It's a nickname, I'm Rowan." He said.
I held out my hand. "Nice to meet you, Ghost." He shook my hand.
"Come on in." Cat said and she led me in the house. "Go get ready if you still want to go to the library."
Ghost left upstairs. "Where's Corbin?" I asked.
"He's at a friend's house. It's Sunday and a school night so everyone has to be home by 4pm." She said.
"Where's Max?" I asked.
"He and Broster are in Texas working on a case. He'll be back tomorrow."
"Have you been working?"
"Not so much since the twins were born. I do office work but I haven't done much in the field. I am taking a few years off before I go back to work in the field. So I'm waiting until the kids start kindergarten. I want to focus on the kids. Corbin and Ghost just love Atlas and Finn."
"I'm sorry for the questions. I'm just curious."
Cat laughed, "That's okay." She led me up the stairs. "Come meet twins." We went into a room and there were 2 little boys standing in their cribs looking at me. I picked one up since he wants to be picked up. "This is Finn. He's my calm baby. Atlas is my wiggle playful, baby. They are so opposite."
Finn fell asleep in my arms. "How old are they?"
"Almost 14 months."
Holding Finn reminds me of holding Corbin when he was a baby.
"Mom, I'm ready." Ghost said.
"Okay."
"Can I watch them?" I asked. I know Cat and I didn't part on good terms. But I want to make it up right with my little sister.
"Are you sure?" She looked at me skeptically.
"Yeah, give you a break." He said
She smiled. "Thanks, since you're watching the boys I can go to the store and get dinner. What would you like?"
I miss Cat's cooking. "Meatloaf."
"Okay." Then she turned to Ghost. "Let's go." Then she left.
I took both of the boys into the living room downstairs and played with them. Atlas is a rowdy boy and Finn was playing with his cat plushie.
I heard the door open. "I'm home Aunt Cat!" I heard him run up the stairs then he came back down. I put the boys in their high chairs and I waited until Corbin came into the kitchen.
"Corbin."
"Dad."
"You look so much older." I said.
"When did you get here?" He asked as he sat down on the couch.
"This morning. I came straight here." I sat on the chair. "How is school?"
