I wake up in the hospital to the sound of the monitors beeping. I have so many questions. Why am I here? What happened?
"Help! Help!" A nurse comes rushing in.
"Oh my gosh you're awake thank goodness. Let me go get the doctor."
"Wait what?" Then she leaves before even answering my question.
I can tell instantly I'm in the ICU. I have an I.V. stuck in my arm, a cannula in my nose, and a feeding tube at my belly button. Gross. I thought they only use feeding tubes for people who were in a coma. I don't have lung problems, I don't even have asthma.
How do I know that?
I thought I was dreaming when people were talking to me. I heard a little girl and she kept saying keep fighting Katniss. What am I even fighting for?
The doctor comes rushing in with a clipboard with a thick file. He looks at me and then back at the papers, and it goes back and forth.
"Would you just tell me what's going on!" I snap, it doesn't even sound like me. I have a really coarse voice and it hurts to speak, but I have questions, and I want answers now!
"Well it is a complete miracle that you are awake and responsive," he states.
"And who are you?" I say once again with a lot of attitude.
"I am Dr. Beetee."
"Why am I here?"
"Well you certainly have a lot of questions. But I have a question for you. Do you remember anything?"
"No."
"Well this is to be expected you have amnesia. However, that may be a good thing. The things you went through you might not want to remember. What can you remember?"
"I can remember my childhood, ad personal information , and I was deploy to Panem to fight the Capitol. I remember being set into enemy lines, but that's it."
"I see. People have been here waiting for you do you want to see them?"
"Yes please. One more question Doctor."
"Yes?" He asks with uncertainty.
"How long have I been unresponsive?"
"About six weeks."
"What!"
"I think it is time for your family to come and talk to you. They practically never leave your side. I'm surprise they weren't here when you woke up. Katniss I do have private information you might not want them to know. Remember to take it easy. Don't force your memory to return it might be better if it doesn't."
"Okay what is it?" I am very scared.
"You are very lucky to survive with your prior health concerns. Im surprised the military took you on."
"Yeah, I know."
"Oh okay."
"Thank you Doctor, can I see my family now."
"Of course dear." As he walks out the door my sister and mother come flying in. My uncle comes walking in with the smirk on his face I have missed so much. My sister is screaming my name, ad my mom tackles me in a hug. They have tears streaming down their face.
"Hi guys."
"Oh Katniss you're alive," my sister is sobbing.
"Good fight sweetheart. You've got fight an determination. You are a survivor." He is crying, I have never seen him cry in my life.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay," I try to console them.
"You were dead. Your heart stopped," she is crying harder than I thought possible.
"Katniss we love you so much, but you have other visitors," my mother replies. They take a step back. I am shocked all of my friends are standing there. Gale, Finnick, Cato, Marvel, Clove, Glimmer, Johanna, Annie, Delly, and Madge.
"Hey, guys. I didn't see you there because of all the blond hair." Once again I get tackled, they are laughing and crying.
"Mom, you're a nurse, isn't this ICU?" I ask.
"Yes it is Katniss."
"Then how come you are all allowed back here?" Suddenly they are all interested in their shoes.
"Because they were going to unplug you."
"Oh...wait one person isn't here! Where's Peeta!" I exclaim.
My mother says, "He is..."
