Last Chance(Kita Side)

Chapter 4

I follow the trail of blood as I remember the dream I had all that time ago.

But it can't be, it was impossible.

Kita: Mari...

It had played out exactly as my dream, I was too late to save her.

Kojuro: Good shot there Yuji! Now let's get outta here before more come.

Yuji: What about Miyuki? Do you think she'll be alright?

Kojuro: I'll carry her just follow me, I know somewhere safe.

The two continued their conversation as I just stared down at Mari's body remembering the last words she said to me:

"So that's it? All that time we spent together for nothing?"

If only I hung out with her more.

If only I spared even a minute longer to speak with her or watch shows together.

I couldn't even cry, In this moment I felt nothing. The whole world had been going to hell around me and it hadn't ever gotten better.

Yuji: Kita! We're going now!

Kita: I'm not coming.

Yuji: What do you-

Kita: I SAID IM NOT COMING!!!

I didn't mean to raise my voice toward him, I wasn't even mad at him but I had to blame someone else.

Yuji: We aren't just gonna leave you...

Kojuro: Yuji, we have to leave now! If she doesn't want to come then leave her.

Yuji: Kita...

I don't turn around, I just sit down facing Mari's lifeless body. I had nothing more to say to anyone.

After a few minutes Yuji had left and I was all alone again.

Kita: Maybe I'm meant to be alone.

Chapter 4 Part 2

November 24th, 2025 2:30PM.

???: Alright time to go!

I open my eyes expecting to wake up in my apartment but as I felt a ping pong table against my back I remembered where I was, I sit up and am face to face with a girl I had met after leaving the police station.

Kita: Ayumi.

Ayumi was a year younger than I was but much smarter, she had somehow created a way to defeat those monsters.

This all started around 2 days ago.

November 22nd, 2025 4PM.

I had been wandering the city for a while now, it was dangerous alone but the taser I'd picked up from the police station would be better than nothing.

I knew I could never go back to the police station nor my apartment, my life had turned upside down in a matter of days and it was still hard to believe, I never thought I'd want to go back to my old life.

???: Look out! 

A female voice yells at my direction as I become face to face with one of those Drifter things.

Kita: Mari...

Without thinking I said her name out loud, what had Yuji said again? These things could possess people? Maybe it was my turn as well.

Suddenly I was tackled to the ground and the sound of an explosion rang through both my ears.

The girl whose voice I heard before had been the one who tackled me, her dark eyes stared at me as she worriedly asked "Are you ok?"

I push her off of me and I ignore the question.

???: My name is Ayumi!

The girl dusts herself off and offers me her hand, I push it away and stand up on my own.

Kita: I'm Kita. Not that it matters, I didn't need your help with that Drifter.

Ayumi: Actually, that was a Luminsecent Drifter!

The girl smiled as if she was all too happy sharing a fact with me.

It was obvious the type of person she was, someone who'd always correct others even if they didn't ask for it. She seemed like the type always willing to make friends but also extremely sensitive as if the smallest thing in the world could make her cry. There was no way I'd want to associate myself with someone as obnoxious as that.  

Kita: Well I don't care what it was or how you killed it.

I continue walking ahead of her but she follows close behind me and every time I turn around she's right there.

I guess I'd have to add "Needy" and "Attention Seeker" to the list of personality traits I had noticed in this girl. 

Ayumi: It's dangerous to go out there alone.

I finally turned around to face the girl, who had that same big smile on her face the entire time.

Kita: Then why are you traveling alone?

Ayumi: I can handle myself.

Kita: And what makes you think I can't?

She points to my right pocket and says "That taser you have won't do much."

Kita: How did you-

Ayumi: Yknow I've been looking for a partner! 

This girl's personality was really starting to annoy me but my reluctance to go with her ran deeper than just that.

Kita: I'm cursed.

Ayumi: Huh?

Kita: Anyone who travels with me dies.

The girl stopped following me and just stood there, it seemed as if she actually believed it.

Ayumi: I'm not afraid of that, I actually have a friend who may be able to help you!

Knowing that this girl wouldn't leave me alone, I decide to accept her offer.

Kita: Fine, take me to where you live.

December 1st, 2025 7PM.

Ayumi and I had left her small garage and were on our way to meet the friend she had mentioned before and we had arrived at something of an apartment building.

Ayumi: Wait, give me your taser.

Ayumi seemed serious so I handed it over as she began to attach some things to it, after a couple of minutes she handed it back to me.

Kita: What exactly did you do to it?

Ayumi's eyes sparkled as she seemed eager to explain, "I upgraded it!" she says with her signature smile.

Ayumi: It'll shoot electric bullets now to simplify it.

Kita: Thank you for not over-explaining. 

Ayumi: Let's go in now.

Ayumi seemed actually serious today so I knew I had to be on guard.

Just exactly what would we find here?
