The scent of espresso is almost nauseating to Jeongin. He simply couldn't take the overwhelming scent of coffee, and lofi beats muffled by children's wails any longer.
It was an unusual rush hour at Jeongins local café, where he was employed as a cashier. He was usually your star employee, but today he pokes out his lower lip and groans as he runs his fingers through his ginger hair.
"What did you want again?" He groans, furrowing his brows as he tries to remember his middle-aged customer's order.
She sighs and folds her arms, giving Jeongin a scowl. "Did they not train you before you were hired?" She scoffs, tugging on her son's arm as he attempts to run off somewhere and join the other children who seem to think this café was some sort of playground for them.
Jeongin wants to lash out at her and scream that they are both fucking frustrated at the moment, so why make it harder for each other!?
However, Yang Jeongin needs this job.
So he forces the widest smile he can express at the moment and creates an artificial gleam of joy. "I'm so sorry for my incompetence, but there's a long line behind you, so if you could just repeat your order so I can ring it up for you, that'd be amazing." He claps his hands together, smiling even harder, hoping to fully sell these false emotions.
She smirks and flips her black bob, as if she had just won this battle. She then begins repeating her order while Jeongin is attentively listening and placing her order.
She struts off without her children in hand, which manages to annoy Jeongin even more. He doesn't feel like raising his voice at children today or speaking at all, but he's the only person out in front, so he's forced to shout at them to sit down.
They don't listen.Of course, they don't listen.
He raises a hand to his forehead, letting a hard sigh blow out of his nostrils.
He continues to take order after order, and no one walks in to help him. He feels as if his shift will never end.
Eventually, one of the two baristas in the back sent out a dozen orders. He lets out another sigh, praying customers are alert and actively listening out for their names.
He picks up a cold-to-the touch, mocha-colored, venti-sized drink. "Yunjin! Order for Huh Yunjin!" He shouts, cupping a hand around his lips, hoping to amplify his voice over the noisy crowd.
A particular scarlet-haired woman breaks eye contact with her laptop screen, pushes her hair off his shoulder, and leaves her seat to receive her order.
He hands her the drink with a faint smile on his lips and continues to shout names.
He hasn't taken an order in a while, trying to service customers who have already placed and paid for their orders. This only causes the line of customers to reach the entrance door and multiple people to get frustrated, let out a groan, and leave the establishment all together.
"Excuse me." An impatient customer speaks up, tapping their card against the marble countertop. "Excuse me, my order." They say.
Jeongin is becoming increasingly annoyed and frustrated by the noise level and how some people have yet to acquire the skill of patience. He snaps his head back with his furrowed brows. "If you could just wait a single sec-" He locks eyes with his customer.
"What were you saying? You're going to take my order now, right?" He raises a dark eyebrow.
"Oh my god, Minho. Yeah sure!" An authentic smile plays on his lips. It's mind-blowing how the atmosphere changed so quickly in a matter of seconds.
With his boyfriend here, Jeongin could block out the sound of everything else, and his ears only allowed the sound of Minho's soothing voice to flow in.
"Okay, I think I'll take..." He drags on the e for a while before pausing, squinting up at the large menu sign above him, and slightly tilting his head. "I don't know; what do you like, pretty?" He stares deeply into Jeon's mocha eyes, refusing to break eye contact.
"Well, I like the pineapple tarts from the summer menu." Minho nods his head, looking into Jeingin's eyes as if he's telling a captivating tale. "But if you want a drink, a cold brew would probably be nice in this heat."
"Guess I'm trusting you on this then. I'd like two pineapple tarts, though, and I want a to-go order." He states as Jeongin begins to ring him up, and eventually he taps his card, paying for his order.
"Next!" He reaches over the counter, dividing the two, to give Minho a playful push on his shoulder. Minho simply smirked in reply, making his short walk to the table closest to the Jeongin, staring at him with glistening eyes as he worked, taking short intervals to check his phone.
Jeongin feels as if he is a sim character and someone has just used the make-happy cheat on him.
He's returned to his usual hard-working state and manages to quickly service customers, as the rush ended and the increase in people in line couldn't keep up with the decrease.
At some point, he begins calling out orders once again. He smiles to himself, and a light blush appears on his cheeks as he picks up a brown paper bag, Minho's name labled on the white sticker stuck and centered on the bag.
"Order for Lee Minho!" He giggles, glancing at his boyfriend from the corner of his eye.
Minho raises himself from his chair and walks over to the counter. "Thank you," He picks up his bag, taking a few steps away from the counter to allow space for others.
Before walking off, Minho takes a peek in the bag, rummaging around to examine its contents. "Ah, this isn't my order." He groans, looking up at his boyfriend.
Jeongin's stomach drops a bit, suddenly feeling horrible as he can't even correctly serve his lover. He's about to tell Minho he can fix it for him before he's interrupted.
"I think this is for you, cutie." He smirks, leaning in the kiss Jeongin gave him on his cheek while simultaneously sliding the bag across the white marble countertop. "Keep working hard and enjoy these on your break, you deserve it."
"Oh my god, I love you so much." He can't seem to wipe away his smile.
Minho smirks, blowing a playful kiss towards Jeongin. "I love you more, baby." He grins. "I can't wait to see you after work."ᥫ᭡
