Before I knew it, the hours had flown by, and it was time to say goodbye. As they both left, Elijah reminded me of our plans for the rest of the day. I started to say “Thanks!”, but I just shortly remembered my act and changed it to “...thanks...” “You’re welcome! Would you like to come straight over to my house right now or would you like to come over later?” “...now” I literally hate how I talk. I know it’s an act but it’s a.n.n.o.y.i.n.g. “Ok! Follow me then, Ruby!” He bolts off to the entrance of the school, as I follow close behind. Then remember what the teacher had said- “El-!” I say quickly, cutting myself off when I realize how loud I had spoken instead of my act-of-whisper..or should I call it something else? I haven’t thought about that.

He also seems quite surprised. “Yeah? What's up?” “I’m going to head back to Mrs. Voiddraft and get the uhm, treasure chest thingy.” I say quickly, attempting to be quiet. “Oh yeah, have fun!” He says with a beaming smile. “I’ll go out front of school and wait for you, make sure to be quick!” “Mk.” I sigh, trying to make my voice urgent so it didn’t seem odd that I was speaking up, that I was just simply in a rush.

He runs off, heading out front of the school. I turn around and head back to the classroom. By now I’ve already gone over the school layout on paper and studied it multiple times, so I've memorized it. I cut through a hallway and turn down another- then hear a voice. I move over to the door from where I hear it. School just ended, so who's talking?

“-hing unusual.” A pause. “It hasn’t, no.” I try to peek through the closed classroom door. It’s a few classrooms away from Mrs. Voiddrafts’s room, so it shouldn’t be her. The room is dark, the lights dimmed off, the curtains open though, making the inside easier to see from the oddly sunny day, even though last time I checked it was January. The figure's back is turned away from me, talking into a phone.

I look up at the room, it’s Mr. Evanward’s room, he’s my Biology Science teacher. Science and Biology are both different, on monday wednesday, and friday I have Science, while the other two week days I have Biology. Currently we’re learning microbiology, in which is pretty much studying microorganisms like bacteria or molds, nothing too complex from the outside. Though, it is actually one of the hardest courses in my opinion. He actually has smart students, too. Is this Mr. Evanward, and if so who’s he talking to, what's he doing? If not, why is this person even in Mr. Evanward’s room? Why are they- “Yes, I know.” Then the blurry figure grabs something and shuffles around the room, opening their computer and typing in a password. 2-3-D-5-J-7-v-Z-! “23D5J7vZ!” I mutter to myself, taking my bag off of my shoulders and tugging my marker out of my bag, writing the password down on my arm. Who knows? This could be very important in the future. Or it could be useless. I tug my sleeve back down over my arm and shove my marker back into my bag, then put it back on and listen in again carefully. I have to be careful, in case they see me or hear me. I don't want to get caught now, do I?

A few minutes pass and nothing really happens, just the person and the person on the phone talking back and forth. I keep listening but don’t find anything noteworthy. Eventually, the talking comes to an end and the person is packing their stuff up. Hold on- I still have to go to Mrs. Voiddraft’s room to get the treasure chest thing-!

I get up and walk quickly to her room, not trying to run but also trying to get there quickly. I open the classroom door and look at her, she's standing by a treasure chest with a smile, I see the notepad sitting next to her on her desk. She looks up at me and smiles warmly, telling me to come over to the treasure chest and take a prize from it.

I walk over, confused why so many people in class really wanted to open this treasure chest. “I’m uhm, sorry I was late. I got lost…this new school is big.” “Oh it’s alright, I would expect as such!” She smiles. It’s comforting. Wait- No, no thinking like that. She could be an enemy for all I know. Well-I do know a lot about her. But still, just because she is an ACK member doesn’t mean she's against me, right? I turn back to the chest, open it, and it’s… fidget toys? Like pop its, and squishies, and mini squishmellows…huh? Is this what everyone was excited about? And books too? Is this what everyone was hyped about? This is not what I expected. I mean, these are cool but these are also high school students…
