After the myth Medusa's Head, Perseus' wife is hosting a party for all humans and all gods to attend after their marriage and to celebrate the victory of Perseus killing the kraken and saving her life.
Hermes, the messenger god and also known for playing tricks, gave Zeus a bottle of hair gel 2 weeks before the party. Zeus wanted to practice doing his hair for the party, so he slicked back his hair with the gel and after about 10–15 minutes his hair became hard. When he looked in the mirror, his hair turned into a solid rock of goop. Turns out Zeus was tricked by Hermes and Zeus was furious beyond belief, but now he doesn't know what to do with his hair, but he still has 2 weeks before the party to fix his disaster. Upsettingly he had to shave it off, and he tried to grow it back and even tried to use honey and other recommended hair products Hera suggested, but nothing would work, "MY LUSCIOUS LOCKS!" Zeus screamed when his hair wouldn't grow back, so he called over the only immortal he knew who could help him fix his situation, Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty. To speak with him about his sticky situation in The Palace of Olympus.
Aphrodite told her husband Hephaestus, the god of blacksmith, to capture a yak and pick some cotton so she could create something she called a wig. Meanwhile, Zeus and Hermes were fighting up a storm, literally. "HERMES!" Zeus roared, "Why would you do this to my precious head of hair?" Zeus intensely squeezed his bald head in anger as Hermes appeared in front of him from thin air.
"It's because of that mop of hair you have, since when was the last time you washed it? IT REEKS!" Hermes emphasized as he scoffed and sneered at him.
"You should be grateful for the gift I gave you, Zeus. It's not my fault you can't take a joke, you boring old man, plus it's my new invention I call concrete." replied Hermes in a petty manner.
Zeus became even more angered by Hermes' reply, as he couldn't believe his own son would do this to him. After a week, Aphrodite was called over to speak to Zeus about what she was going to do about his lack of hair situation.
"Aphrodite, do you have your wag thing that you were going on and on about done yet? My hair absolutely cannot look like this for Perseus' party, everybody knows me, it will be so mortifying looking like this at such a big event." Zeus spoke in an overly dramatic and rude tone,
"Yes, it's almost ready. And it's not a 'wag' it's called a wig." Aphrodite spoke with a disappointed sigh. "If you're so impatient, go grab me some beeswax, so I can finish it up."
Aphrodite finished up the wig using the cotton to create the lace, using the hair from a yak for the strands of hair for the wig, and the beeswax as the glue to keep the lace on Zeus' head. The wig was beautiful and went all the way down to Zeus' butt cheeks. Zeus was delighted, and he was ready for the party, and he decided to not slick it back because of the previous events that had taken place earlier in the month. As soon as he entered the party, all the women wowed at how beautiful his hair was, it was long, silky, smooth. This made all the women fall madly in-love with him, because his hair was different from other men, it made Zeus unique. Hermes made an irritated face, he became envious of Zeus, his father who he tried to fool, but it ended up backfiring on him terribly.
Zeus saw the look on Hermes' face and snickered in a trifling way towards Hermes. Hermes was embarrassed and angered by Zeus mocking him that he stormed out of the party earlier than expected. And that's the story of how wigs were created, all thanks to Hermes' tricks, Zeus' bad attitude, and Aphrodite's help on creating the most gorgeous wig for Zeus and his hair loss.
