(At an elementary school in Forest Hills, New York, several students are in the cafeteria, waiting in line and/or eating lunches. One of the students, Derek is currently eating a pepperoni pizza while reading a book)

Derek: Man, I wish my life wasn't so boring, double homework, eating school food, getting picked by dumb football jocks.

(From outside of the cafeteria wing, a mountain lion suddenly is seen walking on school grounds and jumps through the window, scaring the students and the lunch lady)

Unnamed male student: Mountain lion!

(The students and lunch lady ran for their lives out of the cafeteria, except for Derek, who backs away in fear)

Derek: No! Get away!

(Suddenly, lights were flickering and the security cameras suddenly gone static. Eventually, Derek's eyes glow, levitating a metal table, and throw it at the mountain lion, but it dodges and charges at Derek, who uses super speed to move out of the way)

Derek: Why is a mountain lion after me?

(Moments later, animal control, causing the mountain lion to flee out of the cafeteria and ran into the forest nearby. Meanwhile at the Xavier Institute, Cerebro detects Derek's mutant signature as Charles Xavier reads his statistics)

Computer: Discovery, Mutant signature. Extrapolation complete. Identity confirmed: Derek Maximoff. Residence, Forest Hills, New York. Age 12.

Xavier: Maximoff, I wonder.

(Moments later at the study room, the rest of the X-Men were called in for a meeting)

Charles: Cerebro has detected a new mutant in Forest Hills. His name is Derek Maximoff.

Evan: Maximoff? Like Pietro Maximoff?

Kitty: That can't be a coincidence.

Charles: There's just one problem, I suspected Mystique might be involved.

Rogue: Mystique?

Charles: Cerebro also detected her signature in the area.

Scott: Let's go.

(Later in the forest, the mountain lion hides from animal control and shape shifts into Mystique)

Mystique: The plan is working.
