3rd Person's POV:
October 31, 1994
"Poor Thackery Binx. Neither his father, his mother, nor anyone else, ever knew what became of him." the teacher read out loud to her class. "Those 300 years ago. And so, the Sanderson sisters were hanged by the Salem townsfolk." she started walking through the middle isle, taking small glances at her students faces.
"Now, there are those who say that on Halloween night, a black cat still guards the old Sanderson house, warning off any who might make the witches, come back to life." she exclaimed before throwing a black rolled up tissue paper at Lydia. "Ahh!" she squealed in shock while other laughed at her.
She gathered the paper up and scrunched it into a small ball, shoving it in her pocket before fixing her hair. "Give me a break." a kid, Max, huffed. This caught everyone's attention. "Aha! We seem to have a skeptic in our midst. Mr. Dennison, would you care to share your California, laidback, tied-dyed, point of view?" she teased.
Max looked around in amusement while Lydia stared at him with interest to what he has to say. Max scooted back in his seat to get comfortable. "Okay. Granted that you guys here in Salem are all into these black cats and witches and stuff." he started off, using his hands as he spoke.
"Stuff?" their teacher said in shock before repeating herself. "Stuff?" the class grumbled. "Fine. But everyone here knows that Halloween was invented by the candy companies." he stated with a grin on his face. Lydia rolled her eyes and looked at her best friend, (her only friend) Allison, to see if she heard the same thing that she heard. Allison was in shock too.
"It's a conspiracy." he shrugged as if it was obvious. The whole class gasped in shock because of what the Californian said. Allison spoke up, "It just so happens that Halloween is based on the ancient feast called 'All Hallow's Eve'." Allison shared. Max turned his head to look at her. Lydia nodded in agreement, "It's the one night of the year where the spirits of the dead can return to Earth." the witch added with a small smile. Max turned his body, paying attention to her as well."
Everyone cheered at the two girls. This was the first time people cheered for Lydia. A smile started to crawl on her face. "Well said, Allison and Lydia." the teacher clapped. Max ripped out a piece of paper before walking over to the brunette. Lydia looked up at him, "Well, in case Jimi Hendrix shows up tonight, here's my number." he handed her the sheet of paper. She opened it up to see his number written on it, neatly too.
Everyone whistled and clapped. That's when the bell ranged, dismissing everyone in the class. Lydia then got up, reaching the boy's height. She walked away, following her blonde friend as Max started at her with a smile. A kid that was behind, most likely a jock, walked up to him. "Max. Fat chance. She's a weirdo." he told him, walking away as Max's smile started to fade away. Weirdo? What does that mean? Max thought to himself before quickly gathering his stuff and leaving the class.
