The never ending circle of work was draining you to the maximum. Days passed by rapidly, consuming whatever the little energy that was left in you. Each day passed by, with you being
forced to enslave yourself to the endless torments of trying to survive this brutally suffocating economy. Then again, this routine was normalized among the public now. Almost everyone around you were used to it. Everyone, you knew of your age, did at least 2 part time jobs while trying to complete their degrees, but that doesn't change how hard and draining it was to try to manage it all.
Meeting the deadlines of your dreadful assignments and projects while dealing with selfish, awfully drunk customers slowly started to become your daily routine and it was both physically and mentally draining you. Words wouldn't be enough to describe how much you longed for that much needed vacation. If only you were born to a well off family.
Letting out a sigh, you made out of the repair shop, clutching your laptop tightly to your chest.
Last time you decided to complete one of your assignments while managing your part time job at the restaurant down the street to your campus, your co- worker had to spill water onto your precious device.
It was not intentional But you can still recall the way your heart sank when you saw the sight. How were you able to afford a new one now? The thought had you frozen to the spot.
Thankfully, it wasn't as damaged as you thought it was though. You were able to save it before much damage was done but it did cost you cause by the end of the repairing, all the money you had saved for yourself were gone for the laptop. Yes, there wasn't much that you had saved, but still, thinking about that little money you had saved with much effort, served as motivation for you to keep going. It made you feel like you would make it after all and it helped you to keep on working.
But now, it was gone too.
You dragged your tired feet through the gravel. It was past 11p.m now, you could not see a decent soul in sight, only just a few men smoking cigarettes here and there could be seen.
Due to the shortage of money, you were not living in the safest parts of the city anymore. Thefts and crime were common and was everywhere in your neighborhood, it was dangerous to move around the streets alone at night.
Other than the few men, the streets were almost empty. Fear started to creep into you and you looked up at the night sky, trying to keep your composure.
The moon was shinning above you. A few stars glistened alongside the milky moon, making the night sky a pretty one tonight.
You couldn't help but smile at the sight as you allowed your mind to calm down just a bit.
"All this hard work would be worth it one day", you thought, gazing up at the night sky. No matter how hard it was, you have made it so far all alone and you were proud about it.
You were so close to the end. Just one year more.
How wonderful would it be when you would finally complete your degree next year and be among those stars. Discovering new pathways in the universe, seeing what infinity looked like from your own naked eyes. The softness of the gravity would pull you far away from all your sufferings on Earth and would happily engulf you into its world of wonders.
Your inner child was waiting, you knew. No matter what, you have to keep going.
Your thoughts continued to drift steadily in your mind as you continued on your way, to take yourself home. No one bothered you, you were stuck deep in your own world until you were interrupted by a mysterious, piercing scream.
