As I walked to the office, I noticed Ava talking with Chris. She was really eager, which drew my curiosity. When she saw me, she rushed up and hugged me.

"We are planning a three-week trip to Paris, but we need to work. Still, we can also enjoy our time there". she said.

I watched Ava's excitement fade as I shared my fears. "Ava, I really don't think I can go," I said, my voice trembling.

But then I noticed her expression shift, a flicker of fear crossing her face. "Maddie, I understand your concerns, really. But you need to come with us. I'm scared of Edward too. He's unpredictable, and Chris... he's not as innocent as he seems. I need you there with me. We can look out for each other."

My heart raced. "What do you mean? I thought Chris was your boyfriend."

Ava glanced around to make sure no one was listening. "He is, but Edward has a hold over both of us. He's not just cold; he's capable of terrible things. He's tried to manipulate me, and I know he's been... inappropriate with you. You have to believe me. We need to stick together."

I felt a chill run down my spine. "What are you saying, Ava? You think he could hurt us?"

She nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't let him force you into something you don't want. We both have to be careful. If we go, we need to keep our distance from him and Chris."

I swallowed hard, torn between my fear and my loyalty to Ava. "But what if we can't? What if we end up alone with them?"

Ava grabbed my hand, her grip firm. "That's why I want you to come. If we're together, we can protect each other. We can stay strong. I need you by my side. I can't face this alone."

I looked into her eyes and saw the same fear mirrored in them. It was terrifying, but I understood how crucial this was for both of us. "Okay," I said finally, my voice steadying. "I'll come, but we have to make a plan. We need to be vigilant and stick together at all times."

Ava's face broke into a relieved smile, though I could still see the worry behind it. "Thank you, Maddie. We'll watch each other's backs. I promise we'll find a way to enjoy our time in Paris, despite everything."

As we walked back into the office, a sense of determination settled over me. It wouldn't be easy, but together, we might just stand a chance against the darkness lurking around us.
