Rain lashed against the windows of Nevermore Academy, a relentless drumming that mirrored the storm brewing inside Lenore. Her latest poem, a heart-wrenching ode to a lost pet bat, had been met with snickers and dismissive remarks during poetry club. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring the image of her raven Edgar perched on her windowsill.

Suddenly, a soft tap at the door startled her. Lenore wiped her eyes hastily and called out, "It's open!"

The door creaked open, revealing Annabel Lee, her blonde hair damp from the rain. A worried crease marred her usually serene brow. Without a word, she crossed the room and sat beside Lenore, instinctively reaching for her hand.

Lenore's sniffles intensified, the dam of her emotions threatening to burst. "They just don't get it, Annabel," she choked out. "They think poems have to be pretty and perfect. But mine..."

Annabel squeezed her hand gently. "But yours are raw, Lenore. They have a soul. They make me feel things, things most poems wouldn't dare to touch."

Lenore looked up at Annabel, a flicker of hope igniting in her eyes. "Really?"

Annabel smiled, the soft glow from the bedside lamp catching the freckles dusting her cheeks. "Absolutely. Your poem today... it made me think about Poe and his love for his lost Lenore. It was beautiful, in a way that only you can be."

A warm feeling spread through Lenore. "You always know what to say, Annabel."

Smiling again, Annabel leaned closer, the scent of lavender and rain filling Lenore's senses. "Because I understand, Lenore. We're both a little different, a little out of step. But that doesn't make our voices any less important."

Lenore leaned into Annabel's warmth, finding solace in the simple act of closeness. Outside, the rain continued its relentless assault, but inside, a different kind of storm had subsided. The shared understanding, the unspoken words of support, were a balm to Lenore's wounded spirit.

In the quiet companionship, a comfortable silence settled. Lenore snuggled closer, a newfound confidence blooming within her. Annabel was right. Her voice mattered. And with Annabel by her side, she knew she could weather any storm.
