It was a peaceful night, the pitch darkness fighting against the yellow light emerging from the street lamps. The dogs had recently finished their night duty, looking meekly at the empty road. The solitary human being living on the footpath gazed ahead, perhaps hoping to see something other than the dark. The only sound breaking through the deafening silence was the waves gushing against the shore.
Just then, a speeding car took the bridge. The motor was stable until it violently turned away from the straight path and drove into the river.
The dogs raised their heads to see more but got to rest again as if nothing happened. The old man was bothered by the massive rippling sound, but he stayed in his place, weary and helpless.
