"My sweetest sun,"
It was a well-known fact that he embodied the sun. He felt warm, and he shone in his own way. He, and I know this for sure, never failed to bring light with him. It could be because of his smile, his laughter, or maybe his jokes, or it could be because of his whole presence. Or maybe it was everything about him.
He brought so much light with him that during the times when I'm with him, I get so comfortable as if I'm in the enclosure of my home.
Perhaps... It was because he was home.
I tapped my feet against the mossy floor, and my heart skipped a beat at the thought of him. I massaged my chest and shook my head at the incredulous thought of metaphors and Rein.
"Oiii!"
Behold, and there he was. Squinting my eyes so that I could see better, I watched as he strode towards me with a wide, bright smile plastered on his lips that almost made me smile back at him.
"Sorry! Late." He stopped his tracks in front of me. His smile never left his lips, and I hated how charming he looked right now, looking down at me, because I couldn't even get pissed at him for being late. "How long have you been waiting?"
"You'd be surprised," I replied with a small shrug.
His smile grew even wider, and he nudged my shoulder with his own. "Come on now. Go on, tell me, Lukas."
I rolled my eyes and pushed him off me lightly. "Stop it." He did stop, but a grin made its way onto his face.
Rein... He always had a smile plastered on his face. He smiles as if he were always given enough reason to smile. His smile was like an accessory that he must wear to complete his fashion, and it did. His smile completes him. Without his familiar smile, he wouldn't be Rein. He wouldn't be the Sirein that I found solace in.
"So?"
I sighed and crossed my arms. "So you've been late for thirty minutes."
For the first time since he arrived at our meeting place, his smile dropped. Rein's smiley face was replaced by confusion.
"Huh?"
A laugh escaped my throat, and my fist directly shot up to cover my mouth. It is enough for me to hide my smile and muffle my soft waves of laughter. Rein looked at me with a glint of fondness in his eyes and with pursed lips, obviously stifling a smile again.
"Thirty minutes, Rein. I've been waiting for you here for thirty minutes," I clarified, and I made an act of looking at my wristwatch.
It's true that I've been waiting for him for thirty minutes. I sat alone on a mahogany bench under the tree while I waited for him to arrive. To pass the time, I watched the hustle and bustle of the students. I listened to their chatter and laughter. All as they walk past where I'm seated at one of the benches on the campus.
I looked up at Rein, and he was biting his lower lip and thinking. Then his lips formed an oh, and he grinned at me with the intent of teasing.
Here we go again.
"So what's thirty minutes of waiting like?"
I would have said that I didn't even sweat, but that would be a lie because I was indeed sweating, so instead, I just glared at him and said, "Hell."
Rein chuckled and craned his neck to the side. "Yeah? Why is that, hm?"
Again, I rolled my eyes and pointed at his back. "Because of that, idiot."
He slightly turned his head to look at where I was pointing. And the view almost—almost—killed me. Rein, the quintessence of the sun, being kissed by the sun itself was truly a bewitching sight to lay eyes on.
A lot of his hidden features were highlighted by the sun, showing me the moles that I would like to count if given the chance. A few strands of his hair fell, and I had the urge to brush them off.
I cleared my throat and steered my attention away from his distracting features.
"Ay?" He turned to me and scratched the back of his head with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry," he said quite genuinely.
I brushed it off with a wave. "Not a big deal."
"Well, for me it is." He smiled at me and offered his hand. "Come on," he said to me while I stared at him, confusion evident on my face.
"Huh?"
"Come on. Let's go. Let's get going. Off we go."
As he recited synonyms, my eyes were glued to his outstretched hand. My own hands twitch, longing to hold his and feel his hand against mine. I gulped, looked away from his hand, and stood up abruptly.
"I understood you the first time," I mumbled, and I heard him laugh before he wrapped his arms around my shoulder. I elbowed him to his side. "Where are we even going if not straight home?"
"Ehhh? Didn't I tell you?"
I turned sideways to look at him. "No?"
"Really?" he made sure, furrowing his brows in confusion. "But I remember telling you about it yesterday, though," he drawled, deep in thought, as he massaged his chin. He inclined his neck to the side and bit his lip.
He really was lost in thought, I thought as I let my eyes fall on him. Rein was in the throes of his thoughts, and I was as enthralled by him as I was the day I first set my eyes on him. My focus went from his face to his hand and I gulped. Slowly, I moved my hand to reach for his hand—to hold his in mine. To fit with mine.
"Hey," I called out in a soft voice. Rein blinked and looked at me in daze. I smiled and held his hand in mine. His hand was so soft that I tenderly grasp it close to me, afraid that I might not hold it like this again once I let go. The thought of it was scary; it scares me. "Let's go."
Now, it was his turn to blink in confusion. "Where?"
Our fingers intertwined. And they fit with each other, as if they were made to be twined together.
"To your secret garden."
