She was sitting on the terrace as tears stained her cheeks. She wiped them and looked at the residue on the tip of her fingers. Why her fate had to be like this, why did she have to suffer and make innocent people suffer too, all due to her so-called mother.

She looked at the night sky, twinkling over the city. The friend of the ones who didn't have any. Her other hand ached, she looked at it wrapped in a bandage. It ached a lot, but the ache in her heart hid it well enough to not let her care about it.

"KYUUUUU" She yelled.

"Ammi, ap hume pasand nhi krti kya?" Haseena asked while lying on Ammi's lap. The question made Ammi surprised.

"Esa kyu?" Ammi asked.

"Ap bas Karishma ko hi pasand karti hai ab. Jab se hamari shadi hui hai, tab se sirf Karishma Karishma Karishma. Apni beti ko yad bhi kiya apne? Itne bhi bure nhi hai hum Ammi." Haseena said, her voice cracking.

Ammi looked at her, her eyes were brimming with tears. Haseena just got up and left the room without another word.

Ammi didn't go behind her, what could she even go and tell her daughter. She was limited to her actions due to the chains she had tied to herself.

Everyone was silent on the dinner table. Shreya had prepared something for them as a token to thank them for the help they had given her. But now that no one has talked, she thought it was because of her food.

Shreya took a bite, it was fine. The rice was properly cooked and flavoured. She didn't find anything wrong with it. "Uh.. Aunty ji, apko khana acha nhi laga kya?" Shreya asked awkwardly.

Everyone jerked back to their consciousness. They had forgotten to praise the food because of their own problems. It was indeed good, good enough that Shreya deserved an appreciation.

"Are nhi Shreya, bahut acha hai. Hum bas kuch soch me pad gye the" Ammi said to Haseena, so that she could type in her mobile and show it to Shreya

"Haan Shreya ji, bahut acha hai. I will take a second serving" Haseena typed, adding hers too and showed it to Shreya

She looked at Karishma, who was struggling to eat with her bandaged hand. She struggled for some time and got up. "Hume bhook nhi hai" She said gloomily and went upstairs to her room.

"Isko lagi kese?" Shreya asked. Ammi and Haseena both didn't know how to answer it.

She was going through a case file in their room, sitting on the couch. The case was too complicated to be digested by her hungry, dizzy brain. She wanted to escape from all this, she wanted to escape from the life she was having.

She heard a knock at the door. She turned her head to find Haseena standing there, with a plate full of rice and a spoon. Why? She never had food in her room.

She came and sat on the couch, the uncomfortable couch she had to sleep on during the nights. It had been days since she had properly rested.

"Kha lijiye" Haseena said.

Karishma stayed silent. Haseena made it hard for Karishma to hate her. She knew Haseena wasn't happy with the way she was being treated but still she had the courtesy to be kind and make sure that Karishma didn't go to bed empty stomach.
