Summary:

Lynn is a florist. Amanda is a tattoo artist who works across the street. They finally have an excuse to talk to each other.

It was nearing closing time, the mid-spring evening glow bathed the quaint store in streaks of amber and gold through the windows.

Lynn was focusing on picking up fallen seed packets in the back, crouched on her hands and knees to make sure nothing spilled while her coworker, Allison watered some daisies in the front. It was quiet, save for the soft jazzy music playing to uplift the atmosphere. Occasionally Lynn found herself humming along to the tunes. It made the long hours more bearable.

Petal Bliss was a family business originally. A cottage-core style flower shop with a peach pink theme and flowers decorating the outside. The exterior was Victorian style, while the interior was more cozy, a cream yellow wallpaper with painted roses across the edges.

Allison was the event planner, while she focused on putting the bouquets together. They made a good team, but it was difficult.

The workload was harder than one would expect from florists, especially during holiday seasons. Mother's day, weddings, funerals, anniversaries...it didn't matter, soon they all blended together. Hours of the same monotonous work. The customers were in varying degrees of emotional states depending on the context and it was stressful to impress the particularly picky ones, but Lynn did her best to be patient. After all, she wouldn't trade this job for the world. She could set her hours, it was quiet most of the year, and she liked working with flowers. She understood flowers and plants.

Just as she finished adjusting the packets, the door chimed. Perking up, Lynn poked her head up from behind the counter.

A handsome black man in a brown leather jacket stepped inside and admired the decor. Allison immediately stopped watering the flowers and froze.

"Hey," He greeted, looking sheepish. "Sorry I'm late, I lost track of time."

"No need to worry, Dan," Lynn assured him. "In fact, you actually came at the perfect time! It's all ready."

"I paid in advance, didn't I?"

"You did indeed. One sec."

She popped into the floral arrangement area and came out with a large bouquet of roses- white, pink, and red, all tied up with a yellow ribbon. "All ready to go!"

Daniel's eyes lit up as he accepted the bouquet, admiring each petal and sniffing its pleasant scent. "It's beautiful. Thank you so much Lynn."

Her lips curved into a smirk as she watched Allison fumble around in her peripheral vision. "Actually, this one was made by Allison. She wanted to make it perfect for you."

Allison turned beet red, sputtering a few nonsensical words in horror.

He grinned. "Aw, Allison, thank you so much. It really is perfect."

"Oh, it was no problem."

"Tracey is gonna love it." He said, oblivious to the way Allison's face fell.

Then, Lynn noticed something on his wrist, and hoping to distract him from Allison's obvious disappointment, she piped in. "Say, is that new?"

Daniel rolled up the cuff of his jacket so she could get a closer look. "Hell yeah. Got it across the street a few days ago."

"The Rainbow Tattoo Parlor?"

"Yep. The owner designed it herself. Do you like it?"

Lynn squinted. It appeared to be a feather. It was neatly crafted and did look precise and accurate. Beautifully inked too.
