REGRETS

"Miserable man! I regret ever getting married to you!! Look at my friends,Henry have I not suffered enough? Have I not tried? I have to work day in and day out to make sure we all feed. I pay the bills,I am tired ! "Anita shouted at her husband while angrily packing her clothes..
"Who will take care of this child? When I had back then you never raised your voice at me,do you think I am happy watching you do all this and you know that I'm trying to get my feet back on the ground"going on his knees please don't leave us, I promise that things will change,please dont go,"said Henry amidst tears
Laughing "you can hire a nanny or beg one of you siblings to come take care of her,I don't want to miss this luxury life. If i get married to James i can be sending money for you to use and take care of our child"
"Just because situation is like this you want to leave me to get married to James or whatever his name is,why are you not contented? What if James condition becomes worse than mine? I love you Anita "taking a hold of her hand,i cannot imagine my life without you, you and our child have been the one giving me motivation to work harder. James is just trying to destroy us"
"Henry you will be just f..."the sound of her phone ringing interrupted her,looking at the screen it was James, swiping the call to answer an impatient voice sounded at the other end"Anita where are you?    "I am almost done arranging my clothes, i will be with you in a minute" "Be fast about it"saying that he hung up the call
"Are you really going to do this?you are not considering your child if not me? What will i tell her if she ask of you?said Henry his voice shaking with fear,trying his possible best not to allow this woman he has loved and chased for years. When he first got married to her,he was rich things were working perfectly for him,she had always loved him or maybe not him she had always loved his money. Back then she was a full housewife having maids on her beck and call,but after disaster struck their fist child "Richard dies in a fire accident. Henry and his wife was devastated for months as if that wasn't enough. Henry's business went bankrupt his staffs were stealing from him when he found out it was already too late,the business collapsed
He had to borrow money from the bank to revive the business putting his house as a collateral but was robbed on his way  back. The robbers did not let go of him just like that,they shot him severally on his left thigh,shoulder and hand and dropped him by the road side. When the news of her husband getting robbed got to her,mourning Anita rushed to the hospital he was taken to. Getting there she saw her friend who called her"where is he?  Sighing "you need to calm down,he is fine,but i think you should thank that man over there" pointing at a man who seemed to be busy over the phone "why?asked Anita "he helped your husband, he saw him lying by the road side if he was not quick enough i don't know what would have happened "pushing her towards where he is "hmm...."casually walking towards him,she taps him on his shoulder, the man signifies one second turning back"I will call you back"he puts the phone in his pocket
"What is it you want to say madam?
"I wanted to thank you for rescuing my husband, for not making me a widow"saying this she goes on her knees,tears welling up her eyes "no,no no,no"holding her by the hand he drag her up,shaking his"you don't have to do that,what i did anyone else can do it but God choosed me"  "thank you soo much sir,thank you"said Anita,crying "Don't cry madam it is well"consoling her"my name is James by the way"bringing out a business card from his pocket he hands it over to her "call me when you are in need of anything" hesitating for a minute"ehm madam give me your account number " looking at him she wonders who this man is? She gave him her details  then walked away to check up on her husband
They had already removed the bullets in his body and the hospitalprovided blood that matches his blood type,seems he lost some blood "hmm" she sighs
If not for James what would have happened? Looking at her husband who had gone out this morning promising to come back with goodnews on the sick bed. What a life! That is how people dies. Checking his heartbeat,it was beating perfectly well, seems they had given him an injection to make him sleep.......
Some months later he was discharged but could not walk properly yet. Anita had started working as a secretary in James office and he was paying her well. The relationship between them began to bloom,he was taking her for outing,meetings with business partners,introducing to his family members. The relationship was becoming questionable, that staffs at the organisation noticed their closeness
At home she was becoming hostile and gets angry at every little thing. Late night was the regular time she comes back from work when she is asked by her husband "oh I should not go to work,you want me to commit suicide, don't you know that me going out to work is for our own good. You are crippled and cannot work,you cannot provide for my needs you cannot take care of me Henry!!!
"Anita I'm your husband I have every right to question you and you don't talk to me like that,I deserve some respect!!! Said Henry raising his voice at him
Laughing sarcastically "crippled husband, why don't you get up go out there and work,if not for James I don't know what would have happened by now. I don't know where we would be,I'm forever indepted to him. He saved your life and you are ungrateful, just this little sacrifice you are complaining, stupid man, if I could foresee the future I would not have gotten married to you.  I regret it day in and day out" (sighs)"you are the cause of Richard's death,you are ill_fated "(scoffs) turns around looking at the house "we will be leaving this house very soon,because the bank are coming to claim it because of you!!! You are so careless and foolish, who goes to the bank to collect such huge amount of money without a security or who collects such amount in cash. He claims that he is educated,you are the worse human being I have ever seen. Let me warn you"(pauses)"this should the very first and last time I walk in through that door and you open that disgusting mouth of yours to question me" saying this she walks away,murmuring"fool"
Picking up his phone by his side,he dials a number, the phone goes ringing for some minutes then beeps "hello Henry"a gentle voice on the other end is heard. Trying to control the shaking voice,tears were already dropping "mom I'm tired! I cannot continue like this"(pauses) "am I really cursed? What is my........ "shush it Henry who is putting stuffs like this in your head? You are not cursed not because things are rough now does not mean you are never gonna make it,I always know you for someone with a strong fate. What happened?"asked Mrs Fedrick
"It is Anita,she said a lot of things today,she called me crippled,she said that I'm worse than a human being. I suspect my wife is going out with the man that helped me"
"Hmm! Don't mind that woman she is not contented, she was pretending to love you. Before the death of your father he warned you not to get married to her but no! Love had blinded your eyes"she said with concern"how are you feeling? I hope you can lift your legs now?"
"Just a little bit,the masseur had come in the morning, atleast the pain had reduced "said Henry trying to lift the leg feeling a sharp pain he dropped the leg,the bullet had pierced through his left tigh,hand and shoulder
"I will be coming to see you during the weekend,Kelvin says to tell you,if the bank comes for reimbursement,you should let him know ,we will talk later I'm busy right now "saying this she hung up the call
Looking at the screen of the phone he sighs............
