The morning sun was a flood of gentle light pouring through the sheer curtains and into the room. Haeri awakened, and with a wide, hazy stretch she rolled to her side and stretched her arm on the night stand, reaching for the phone.
Haeri tiptoed to the kitchen, hips gently swaying to the rhythm of her bare feet. Soon after, Mina emerged from the bedroom, sleepy and grumbling about what Jaemin had just said in the group chat.
"I heard you speaking to him last night." Haeri yawned.
"It's like he isn't even aware of how loud he's talking." Mina pursed her lips in irritation. "He should apologise to you for keeping you up."
"Him? Apologise?"
"Hm, I'll just have to charm it out of him."
Haeri laughed and poured another pot of hot coffee into a cup.
"He better!" declared Mina, "I spoke to him for like five minutes and he gave me a headache! Infact, he can apologise for that too!"
"Didn't you speak to him longer?" Haeri smirked, raising an eyebrow.
"No. I hung up when he was talking mid-sentence. In the end he was practically eating the phone!"
Their laughter was abruptly interrupted by a sharp knock at the door. Haeri exchanged a glance with Mina and crossed the room, curiosity piquing her interest as she swung the door open to see who it was.
There stood their friend Chaesoo, her flawless image framed by cascading, dyed honey-blonde waves which was styled even at this early hour. Yet, a flicker of fire in her eyes was the sign of impatience. And that wasn't so pretty.
"Chaesoo? What brings you here so early?" Haeri asked, stepping aside as Chaesoo breezed past her, her designer handbag swaying beside her.
"We have plans, remember?" Chaesoo snapped, sinking into the nearest armchair with a dramatic sigh. "Get ready and put on some makeup; I can't even look at you right now. You both look dead. Ha, couldn't be me!"
"Really?" Haeri scoffed, laughter bubbling within her as she hurried to get ready, feeling Chaesoo's fiery impatience. Mina, though sluggish from lack of sleep, followed suit.
"Hey, should we keep Jaemin waiting just for fun?" Mina teased, a mischievous glint dancing in her eyes.
Haeri chuckled softly, adjusting her outfit in the mirror—her soft sweater matching with her jeans. "As tempting as that sounds, I doubt it'll win 'Queen' Chaesoo's approval. She's in a bad mood no suprise there."
"And when do we ever care what 'Queen' Chaesoo thinks?" Mina whispered.
"I can hear you!" Chaesoo countered from the living room, her voice rising with exaggerated volume. "Hurry up!"
With one last glance in the mirror, they gathered their belongings and joined Chaesoo by the door, now fully prepared to embrace whatever the day had in store for them.
As they ventured toward their favorite café, Chaesoo's phone began to ping.
"I love him, I really do," she declared, "But seriously, how does one person manage to be both sweet and infuriating at the same time?!"
Mina strolled beside her, her dark hair swaying with every playful step."Okay, okay, but can you please tone it down a bit? You're going to attract attention with all this complaining!"
Chaesoo blinked, momentarily taken aback. "You don't want to hear what I'm saying?" she asked, her eyes wide in mock surprise.
"Not at the expense of my eardrums, no." Mina shot back, laughter bubbling between them like sparkling soda, fresh and effervescent.
