Lyla Gilbert sat against her bay window with a frown, it seemed there was one permanently etched onto her face these days.

She felt distanced to Elena and all of her friends, it's like they all had a big secret they were keeping from her.

Tonight was the masquerade ball but there was no point, she had no one to go with.

Elena and Stefan weren't on good terms, so she wasn't going. Lyla and Caroline had been arguing about Caroline's poor choice in men, and Bonnie and Lyla weren't that close.

As Lyla sat there though, she realized her life was very depressing at the moment, so she decided to pull herself up and get ready.

Lyla had an old dress from her mom, it was a short burgundy dress, and she had a pair of gold heels that fit her.

She slipped out of her house, muttering goodbyes to Jenna and Alaric. She walked to the Lockwood House, it was close to hers.

As she stumbled up to the house, she spotted Jeremy and Bonnie whispering suspiciously. She stormed up to them with a raised eyebrow.

"What's going on?" Lyla said with an accusatory look.

Bonnie frowned at her, "What are you doing here Lyla." She shared a small look with Jeremy.

Lyla shrugged, "I didn't know that I wasn't welcome." She snapped back bitterly, while walking past the two, looking for something to drink.

She snagged a cup of whatever she could find, but before she could, a tall figure grabbed it out of her hand.

She glared up at Damon Salvatore, "Give it back."

"Didn't take you as much of a bourbon girl." He drank the liquid in one swig.

She scoffed, "Get away from me. I know that you hurt Caroline."

Damon rolled his eyes with a sarcastic look, "Blondies fine. Infact, we're friends now." He beckons Caroline to come over.

Lyla gave Caroline a small smile, "I like your dress Care."

Caroline forced a small smile back, "What are you doing here?" She glanced at Damon with a gulp.

Lyla frowned at them, "Why wouldn't I be here?"

"Well you haven't really gone to anything since your parents died." Caroline gives her a fake smile.

Lyla's face dropped, "Talk to me when you stop being a bitch."

Lyla stormed out of the house, with tears in her brown eyes. She slammed into a body.

She glanced up, only to spot her twin. Except Elena hardly looked like Elena. Her hair was curled and she had on dark red lipstick, it was unlike her.

"Elena." Lyla gives her a confused look, "I thought you weren't coming."

Elena shrugged, "I decided to come join the party."

Stefan rushes up to them, "What are you doing Elena?"

Elena gave Stefan a flirty smile, "Just talking to my little sister."

Lyla looked between them curiously, "I thought you guys were over."

Stefan sighs, pinching his temple. "It's complicated."

Lyla shakes her head, "Whatever, I'm going home."

Lyla storms down the street, but she suddenly feels a hand clamp over her mouth, when she goes to scream, a large object slams against her head. She feels herself go limp against the strangers body.
