During the Celadon City incident, Ash manage to get into the Celadon Gymwhile disguised as a girl, but eventually, his cover got blown, his friends Misty & Brock left him while taking his badges & calling him an embarrassment & a disgrace to all Trainers along with telling him that he'll never be a Pokemon Master. Not only that, His Pikachu, Squirtle, Charmander, & Bulbasaur left him as well & he got kicked out of the Celadon Gym again. Ash was in the forest as he was sad & felt hopeless, until a trio of Kanto Starter Pokémon known as the Starter Squad. After getting acquainted with each other, Ash told them what happened which made the Starter Squad feel sorry for him, so they decided to join him as his Pokémon.
