YOU SQUEALED AS ZACH sprayed you with a squirt gun, running to hide. You grabbed Gray's arm, pulling him out of the sprinklers to hide behind him. He laughed as Zach sprayed him.
"Okay, okay--truce! Truce!" you cried out as Gray abandoned you to go back to his friends, and to watch you get sprayed. Zach grinned, dropping the gun to pull you into a hug.
"Ew! Get a room!" one of Gray's friends shouted, splashing you and Zach.
"I totally ship it!" Gray splashed his friend in your defense. "[Ship Name] for life!"
You giggled with a soft blush creeping into your cheeks, and Zach kissed your forehead as you watched Gray run around with his friends. They jumped in and out of the sprinklers, and you could smell the warm scent of cookies drifting from the screen door of their parents' house.
"I love you, N/n," Zach mumbled in your ear.
"I love you too," you gave him a smile, meeting his gaze before returning it to the roughhousing boys.
It had been months since the Jurassic World incident, and you were still recovering from the trauma. You and Zach had officially started dating, and although Owen didn't like the idea of you having a boyfriend, he begrudgingly approved of Zach.
Claire had been holed away for the past few months. You had no idea if she was doing it to recover, or if she was doing something else entirely. But you could only hope she was okay, and relied on Owen's updates to ensure that.
Unfortunately, you hadn't been able to contact either Rift or Liam, and you had found their names in the article of those still missing from the island. It had killed you, and you blamed yourself; if you had stayed with them, or taken them with you, they'd still be alive. Zach always tried to keep your mind off of them, and steered clear of triggers, but they were still very heavy on your mind. He always reassured you that it wasn't your fault, but you knew.
But you also knew you needed the confirmation. Those two had known the island better than you did, and both knew dinosaurs. Liam also came from a rich family; you refused to believe that they'd abandon not only one, but both of their children on the island, as their young daughter who'd gone to Camp Cretaceous was still missing as well. They were their only two children.
You knew you needed to go back. When exactly? You didn't know. But you were going to go.
Then the Jurassic Park theme song began to play loudly, making your face flush. Claire's name flashed across your screen, and you excused yourself to take it privately, surprised she'd be the one contacting you.
"Hello?"
"Y/n! Hey, it's me. Sorry it's been a minute, but I've been working on something. Something big, and I want you to be a part of it." Claire rushed excitedly.
You furrowed your brows, "What is it?"
"It's an organization to protect the dinosaurs. I've called it the Dinosaur Protection Group, or DPG. I want to work on making a safe place for dinosaurs to be free, away from people."
Your thoughts drifted back to Foxtrot, and your heart throbbed at the memories. You took a deep breath, "Hell, yeah, Claire. I'm in."
"Great! I'll pick you up next weekend to discuss the details. I know how much this means to you, I'm really glad to have you on my team." Her voice was soft and genuine, and it almost made you tear up.
"Thank you, Claire. I'll pack a few bags. See you then."
Then you turned to Zach to tell him the news. He seemed crestfallen at the idea, but he supported you nonetheless. You promised him that it wouldn't involve any actual danger. At least, you'd hoped not.
