A seven year old Kailani raced down the hallway of her brand new school, her backpack strapped on tightly behind her.

Sheets of notebook paper were flying in the air all around her and gusts of wind blew her blonde hair in front of her face.

Skidding to a stop, Kailani panted at the sight of a beige wall in front of her. She looked to her left, her eyes widening at the sight of a staircase that led to the roof.

"Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that."

The girl bolted up the stairs, using the railing as leverage as she jumped, taking two steps at a time.

She wore a white button down shirt, and a matching green tie and plaid skirt. The school insisted on her wearing black polished shoes, but after Kailani had found out she was very persuasive, she convinced the staff to allow her to wear her black converse.

Green was not a color Kailani liked wearing much, but she didn't have a choice with that. Her innocent act could only get her so much. The one thing that she was okay with, was the fact that the school granted her freedom with her starfish hair clip.

It was the only thing she truly cared about wearing since it was a gift.

When she reached the top, she shoved the door open and raced to the edge of the building, looking over and seeing nothing but people walking on the sidewalk. Cars honked bustled to their destination, even though they didn't get very far because of the traffic.

The sky was foggy from a long rainstorm that came through the night before, and from the looks of it, it was going to rain again soon.

"See that little girl? Isn't she cute? Yeah, well that's me, back in...second grade? Now, I know what you might think, but I swear I'm not crazy."

Kailani frowned, her hair blocking her peripheral. She could have sworn she saw something...a flying horse or whatever.

It was soaring through the air when it caught her attention in her math class. Without even taking a second to ask her teacher, Kailani grabbed her backpack and bolted out of the classroom, heading towards the one place she could see it more clearly.

Much to her dismay, the roof was empty. She sighed, searching the rooftops of other buildings.

There was nothing in sight for miles.

A hand was placed on Kailani's back, making her jump in surprise. Her math teacher stood behind her and guided her away from the edge.

Kailani's teacher brought her back into the school and towards the councilor's office.

"Whenever someone finds out that you think you're seeing things, you end up in a middle-aged man's office, like me."

Kailani tried to listen to what the man told her, but she didn't focus on any of it. Her eyes were darting around his face: the glasses that hung low on his nose, the bald spot on the top of his head, the wrinkles becoming more apparent around his eyes and on his forehead.

Sure, Kailani should have been listening, but it was boring. She had heard the same thing over and over again.

"Good news, he's saying there's nothing to worry about. It's all in my imagination...but if it happens again, make sure to tell someone."
